Re: Can I use LHHG for 5 and 8 year old together
My 7 year old boy (1st grade) is using LHFHG this year and it was great this fall and were he was at....he has advanced to where some of the stuff is too easy for him (he was behind). An 8 year old would find it way too easy. The 2 are so far apart in age that I would recommend separate programs for...

Re: Using RTR for HS, with advanced Sci & LA
Rice - my daughter is using it for 9th grade, but she has many learning issues so I can't 'beef it up' as it is almost to hard for her as is. She will never be going to college so I do not worry about that part of it. I just use it as it is written at this point. She is learning and that is what is ...

Re: coming back to HOD, and special needs
Hi Rebecca - I would check the placement chart for both the 9 year old and the 12 year old and put them in the ones that they fit in. If the 12 year old fits in Rev to Rev go ahead and put her there, but if she places in a lower guide put her in that one. I am currently using Res to Ref for my 14 ye...

Re: use different levels, or extensions?
I suggest checking the placement charts. If your younger 2 place in levels just 1 apart, you might consider combing them at the lower level one. There are no extension materials until you reach Bigger (about 3rd grade). If they place 2 guides apart I suggest using different guides. :) The older one ...

Re: Reading Struggles
I tried various things for my son who was struggling. In the end what helped him the most was to do Explode the Code and then we also did the R&S first grade readers and workbooks (just the reading one not the phonics one). He did not 'like' those workbooks but they worked for him. He is now 10 and ...

Re: English has become over her head
My 10 year old is doing level 2......and he struggles with that one! I would back up and repeat level 3 and then start level 4 again next year.

Re: Placement/Suggestions?
Hi Jasmine, I would check the placement charts to see where your children place. LHFHG might be good for your 5 year old, but I think it would be way too easy for the 8 year old. I am using it with my 7 year old (will be 8 in a month) and some things are too 'young' for him. Also he is in 1st grade ...

Re: I am deciding on placement and would like your thoughts!
Alicica - your thoughts of about placing them CTC, Bigger and LHFHG sounds about right to me. If the younger one that you want to place in Bigger finds it too hard, you can always slow him down and let him go half speed (but then that will almost be like doing 4 guides instead of 3).

Re: It's a family affair!
Tiffini - I totally understand!! I started HOD with my younger boys this fall (hoping to school them together, but it did not work....and they are better off separated). The younger was adopted from Haiti 19 months ago at age 6.5 (he will be 8 soon). The first year he was home we focused on language...

Re: About to give up, and send to PS
I agree with LynnH, taking her to ps will not help. I totally understand the frustration as I have been there. How old are all of your kids and what guides are they using? Maybe there are some suggestions that we can make that will help if we know more of your situation. :D Maybe you all need a few ...

Re: Struggling with placement
I agree with what the others said. Check that placement chart and go with where she places. I would also take a look at that both curriculum (you can download the first week for each of them) to see the level of work. In Bigger you can use either Level 2 or level 3 of Rod & Staff English (Level 2 is...

Re: Where to start?
I am with the other 2 ladies....I recommend LHTH to start with. My 7 year old son is doing LHFHG for 1st grade this year and it is the perfect about of work for him. He has not yet learned how to read so we are working on that but not trying to push too much. His situation is different than most as ...

R&S suggestion
I am thinking about switching my daughter (age 14 and in RtR) to R&S grammar instead of Easy Grammar (she is using the grade 8 180 Daily Teaching Lessons book...it is more of a grammar review and I think she needs more...she does like the workbook format though). She has expressive-receptive languag...

Re: 4 days/wk vs. 5 days/wk
The 5th day in LHFHG is not listed as optional, but is meant as a 5 day a week curriculum. They switch to a 4 day week in Preparing....so the younger kids (LHTH, LHFHG, Beyond and Bigger) all have a 5 day week. For the older kids, that extra day can be used to get caught up or other activities. :) M...
