Good grief, I'm forgetful this morning. Here is the link to that post I mentioned.

Re: written narrations in Preparing
Here is a post about how my daughter finally started writing her own. Her narration is midway down. Keep in mind that at looks much longer in her own writing, but yes, it is rather short as it is only 4 sentences. They have gotten a bit longer since then, but not much.

Re: Multiplication/Skip Counting
Do you have an iphone/ipad/nook/etc? I have a nook tablet for me, but we use it a lot during school time, and my kids practice their basic math facts on it using two apps: Whack-a-math-fact (like whack-a mole, but they have to hit the right answer) and Math blaster (a space game where you have to sh...

Re: Guide sequence
I just wanted to mention that the geography guide isn't "strictly" high school. Yes, it's high school credit worthy, but it seems to be understood that many 8th graders will be in this guide too. If you take a look at the sneak peak post, Carrie mentions that several times. For your older child, I d...

Re: DITHOR-not consistent w/ it
Wow! Another hsing family who is as busy as us! I totally get you on being busy. I teach piano, baby signing, and work from home, plus the kids have a myriad of activities. It can be tough to get to everything! We really struggled getting to DITHOR too at first. I think I felt like since it was in a...

Re: Multiplication/Skip Counting
I never really stressed math facts with C, and she's nearly done with 4A now and has her facts just fine. She memorized with skip counting too. Now, she still uses skip counting when dividing, but that is really the only time it shows up.

This is preparing? We aren't up to that yet, but he is way beyond where my 4th grader is in terms of writing. She can't write that much detail yet. Also, his handwriting is beautiful. It looks like he's doing well. And it sounds like you guys have a good routine going for now that helps you get some...

Re: Holiday Schedules
We "took off" after Thanksgiving, and we will resume when Daddy goes back to work, which is Jan 2. BUT--taking off means we still do math, DITHOR, phonics for the littles, sometimes LHFHG, and our Christmas Around the World study that I kind of put together from various sources that we're doing. So....

Re: Easy Schedule for MTMM, CTC, LHFHG
We enjoy our evening routine too. It is a good wind-down to the day, and one I can pull off the many nights my dh is gone. Julie, I have a question about your evening routine. Do you ever have any nights when you are not home? We go to church on Wed night, so we don't get home until 8:00. I also wo...

Re: Can dithor replace story time?
Although there is some overlap in Character and such, DITHOR is meant to be read by the student, and the story time box by you, so I wouldn't try to replace the story time box with DITHOR. They are both necessary in my opinion! :D The story time box will also introduce the student to books that he w...

Re: Singing While Reading
We also use the memory verse CDs for each level of HOD that we use, and we love them. They are such a great addition to our day. I have also often put music on while we do school. I highly recommend Mozart. Something about how the harmonies and musical structure is organized helps to organize the br...

Re: HOD, Not only for the children......
When I used to read about people who didn't enjoy history growing up, it always would amaze me. I couldn't understand how anyone wouldn't find it fascinating. But then one day it dawned on my what the difference was. I grew up with a father who is a history buff. So our family vacations were going t...

Re: Teacher Manual for English 3: Beginning Wisely?
I'll just add a differing opinion. I have the TM, but I really don't feel like we need it. I will do the oral review some with Caroline, but it just doesn't feel necessary for her. BUT, I am an English tutor (although my degree is actually not English), so maybe that makes a difference? I don't know...

Re: Just had to share-written narration
I love how she covers the main points so succinctly. Great job! :D She is always looking for the quickest way to write something. Cracks me up. Seriously--her oral narrations are very detailed. Her written ones are very succinct. Good word. :D What killed me about this was her use of vocabula...

Re: What is one area in which you've seen growth or progress
Love this thread! I love seeing how everyone's kiddos are growing with HOD. Caroline (9) - She has come so far! The main area where I've seen growth for her I mentioned in another thread, and it's written narrations. I am so proud of her ability to get her thoughts down on paper now! It is still now...
