Re: Just a funny story
Oh! I remember those days of getting up from the table with my 3 yo (now almost 6 yo)! Those were some frustrating times! And I am sure our littlest one will soon follow suit! That is a really cute story! Thanks for sharing!

Re: Extracurricular Activities
lissiejo - I did try to get up earlier this week as well. Though I'm not sure I could personally do 5 am  (though I am sure I could get A LOT accomplished if I actually did)! My days do go a lot smoother when I get up with plenty of time to get myself moving in the morning since I am far from...

Re: How to keep child's full attention during lesson?
raindrops - We actually already own The Beginner's Bible (which she also loves), but I haven't thought to tell her that she'll eventually be able to read it herself. That would probably encourage her. And great point on the "learning to love to read" instead of just "learning to read." Though that i...

Re: Extracurricular Activities
I am sorry I am just now getting on here to thank you. I really appreciate your insight. I really like your comment regarding your quiet time with God being different during this season of life. That really hit home! I often forget they are only little for so long and one day they will be much more ...

Re: How to keep child's full attention during lesson?
Thank you everyone for your wonderful responses! These have all been very, very helpful! But anyways, when he gets off track I just smile and simply say "yep" and what does this letter say? Try to get him back on track... wow, I really have to be careful! He watches me so closely... he knows how I h...

How to keep child's full attention during lesson?
I am really struggling with my dd5 (6 yrs in October). She can focus when she is interested in something, but if she is not interested, even the short lessons do not help. I read the following quote from Charlotte Mason's Inconstant Kitty story (Vol. 5), but I am very troubled with how to correct th...

Extracurricular Activities
As we are nearing the beginning of our extracurricular activities, I am having doubts that I am overextending us. Would someone please give me your thoughts and insights? Here is the scoop. My girls are 5 (almost 6 in October) and 2.5 yo. I have my oldest signed up for ballet on Mondays late afterno...

Re: All Is Not As It Seems
Thanks for sharing that post! Yes, I do think we all choose our own envy and then when people comment on how you have one area of your life together (or so they think), you just have to laugh. I've thought myself about posting pictures of how my house ACTUALLY looks on a daily basis. Because when I ...

Re: I really need help! LHTH or LHFHG?
It sounds like you are feeling at peace with your direction now! I am so glad! Now you can just go enjoy your first year of homeschooling! And know that you weren't alone trying to figure out placement...it took me a good year to figure everything out! :) Since you mentioned you were doing LHTH and ...

Re: I really need help! LHTH or LHFHG?
Aaaaaaand, for the mommy..! Try to stay positive. If you do lose your patience then apologize. My son is sensitive and if I for even a moment act frustrated with his schooling it will takes weeks to undo the damage that my tongue did in a split second. For example, a year ago we were doing some wor...

Re: I really need help! LHTH or LHFHG?
Maybe I am doing too much at once. I haven't looked at the clock but I'll do that and see what happens. Also, she can sit and read with me all day. It's history textbook, devotional, sometimes bible, and storytime that she goes to la-la land. I like the felt character idea, so maybe we'll make some...

Re: I really need help! LHTH or LHFHG?
As I'm thinking about this I'm wondering if she's being passive aggressive? She is very smart and with it. She is in our business all the time and constantly listening and observing. She wants to do school, but when I get out the Bible or reddy fox from LHFHG (or LHTH bile today) she's done. but th...

Re: I really need help! LHTH or LHFHG?
Oh I hope I didn't confuse you more! I tend to give more info than needed sometimes. I'm sorry! I looked at the placement chart to see where "storytime" and "history" fall, and they are at the bottom of the list in determining placement. So I think these boxes are used to prepare the child fo...

Re: I really need help! LHTH or LHFHG?
Awhile ago on this forum I think I had read that LHFHG is meant to assist with reading comprehension...that children may struggle at first, but they will start to put stuff together as you progress. I don't see anything wrong with going half-speed for a 5.5 yo though. Could you maybe make some felt ...
