Re: Things aren't working; need feedback, please.
I didn't read any of the other posts. I only read the original one. But I remember well when I was where you are and this season will pass much too quickly. Here's my quick and easy check list... Focus on: 1.) Scripture 2.) Good habits 3.) Reading, Writing and Arithmetic 4.) Read rich literature to ...

Re: Has anyone used CLEP tests?
My oldest plans to take his first CLEP when he finishes this semester of history. He'll prepare as 8arrows dc did. He'll go this route because the wants to finish his first 2 years post high-school as economically as possible via a Community College. The courses he plans to CLEP are all acceptable c...

Just a hello and a thank you...
I rarely come to the board, but we are deep into our year with children in MTMM, Rev to Rev, CTC and Bigger. And I. just. love. what my children are doing. We've made the guides our own and it is interesting how each one takes a different twist with each child. HOD is my true partner in education. T...

Re: Downsizing a guide for students in extension range
I looked at how much time he would be spending on history each day and I figure he spends at least an hour if you include the projects, the storytime and the state study. Since 1 credit hour is usually considered to be between 120 and 140 hours of work then he meets the requirements to count a cred...

CLEP questions
My 16 yo would like to prepare to CLEP some of his courses this year (American History I for starters ). What materials do any of you recommend for preparation? Are there any other CLEPs that are easier than others. And how do you keep CLEP prep from determining the direction of your studies...or sh...

Downsizing a guide for students in extension range
My 14 yo ds is in his 3rd week of MTMM. It is going well. He is working hard, learning lots, has a great attitude, etc. I only purchased enough books to get us going for the first 9 weeks. This evening I finally had sometime to sit and really look at the guide and give it some thought for the year a...

Re: MTMM Chemistry and GEO IPC?
Does anyone know since Tiner wrote the Chemistry book used in MTMM and the IPC materials how much repetition there is between the two? Also, I'm pondering the same thing Stacey is - if you did the MTMM chemistry with the 101 DVD's would that be enough foundation for biology? Or would the IPC course ...

Re: MTMM Chemistry and GEO IPC?
My daughter just started the IPC course. We have done 1 week. She loves it! She even said, "I would read this just for fun." This is the daughter who thought her school year should consist of calligraphy, cake making, photography, art, and home ec. 8arrows I thought you would enjoy knowing that som...

Re: MTMM Chemistry and GEO IPC?
Oh, it's so delightful to read all of your responses. Here's a couple of questions to all of you: 1) What in your opinion characterizes "strong lab sciences" for high school? 2.) Are any of the MTMM worthwhile for high-school reading? 3.) "Since some of you have older students, do any of you plan on...

Re: New with HOD how to beef up MTMM for 9th grade
It sounds too me like you REALLY want to do the Geo guide, but are afraid to. If I'm right then why not do the Geo guide? Start slow. Just plan to take 2 weeks to cover the first week and if you need to make adjustments you can. You can always downscale the Geo guide a bit. It looks great, but I thi...

Re: proçrastnation or too hard?
I can answer this! Does she procrastinate in other areas of life - chores, etc.? If not, it means the issue is an academic one. So, if the issue is academic I don't think Preparing is necessarily too hard, but I would carve out more time in the first weeks to really be present with her and read alou...

MTMM Chemistry and GEO IPC?
Hi all, We're waiting for our IPC materials to arrive and while waiting I thought I would have my ds read Tiner's Chemistry book which is scheduled in MTMM. I've been so delighted with how much my ds has connected with this book. (This doesn't happen very often : ) As a result, I find myself looking...

Carrie - question about lit in Geo guide
Hi Carrie, I've been pouring over the HOD materials and "rehearsing" a day with HOD for my 14 yos Freshman year using several different scenarios. We've settled at last on using Rev to Rev with beef-ups for Govt. I'm really excited about this path for my student. Having the chance to see the geo gui...

Re: What should I use for Literature supplement?
Just chiming in here. I too have found it beneficial as I have had more than one move into high school to combine instruction for English. We do all our grammar, word study and writing instruction together. I do have them in different literature programs, but the methodology for all of them is the s...
