Re: Summer Reading

My ds was a good way into the emerging reader set before he could handle the 1st grade Pathway Readers with any kind of independence. I would say they are maybe a half-grade above grade level. But that's just a guess. They are very sweet! I would go ahead and start the emerging readers set. They re...

Re: Summer Reading

Thanks for the link! :) I didn't know that Rod & Staff used these readers as part of their curriculum.

Summer Reading

My oldest son is all set to finish up The Reading Lesson this June and I'd like to have him do some summer reading before starting with the Emerging Readers this fall. I'd like to have him read one of the Pathway Readers sine I've heard so many good things about these books, but I'm not sure which o...

Re: The mid-year slump

I'm with you! I've only been homeschooling a couple of years, but both last year and this year at this time I get this urge to ditch ALL curriculum and unschool. I'm definitely noticing a trend here, lol. :) Of course I love HOD and would never "ditch" it. I just keep reminding myself what a blessin...

Re: The Reading Lesson

Congrats on finishing, must be a great feeling! :) We are almost done with lesson 13 and I was just thinking to myself this morning how much I love TRL and I'm so glad I decided to use it instead of looking for something else. I also would recommend TRL to anyone! :)

Re: Reading Made Easy vs. The Reading Lesson

Hi! I don't have a lot of advice since we've never used R&S Phonics or Reading Made Easy, but I am doing The Reading Lesson this year with my oldest and it's going great! I feel like he is progressing nicely and it is teaching him all he needs to know to become a fluent reader. At first I was little...

Can we post about O/T things here?

I'm wondering if we can post O/T subjects here of if this board is strictly about homeschooling?? Thanks! :)

P.S. I'm in serious need of help with my apple pies, lol.

Re: Off topic question..........loose tooth

We do not teach about the tooth fairy either. However, we do let our children put the tooth under their pillow and wake up to see how much money they got. They just know that it is mommy and daddy putting the money there. In my opinion it is just as fun. I think we have always done about a dollar i...

Re: What unit are you on for LHFHG?

We just finished unit 16 today. I *really* want to finish by mid-June and I think we're on track to do that. Yes, I'm a bit uptight about following the public school schedule, but that's mostly because dh is a ps teacher and like to school according to his schedule. :)

Re: LHFHG Singapore math question

Hi Sara. Thanks for your input. HOD moms are priceless because I would have never thought to do that!!! How do you and your son enjoy 1A and 1B? Do you use the teachers guide? I really like Singapore math and my dd5 likes it most of the time. We are having a little difficulty with subtraction right...

Re: LHFHG Singapore math question

The LHFHG guide has activities geared toward the Singapore Earlybird Kindergarten math (2A/2B), but there is an alternate schedule in the Appendix if you will be using Primary Math 1A and 1B. You will need to purchase the texbook as well as the workbooks if you use the schedule in the Appendix. Ano...
