Re: Landmark biographies/books?
They are excellent books! We own several due to a friend who used to work for the public school of which the school's library was clearing out books & these landmark books were included. I found some reviews online: "This series is superlatively well done and is a major contribution to the informati...

Re: HOD Blog
Okay, here's what I just did ( there's probably a better way, but anyhow....) go to the blog & scroll down to Topics by Category (on the right) click on Dear Carrie. Scroll down about halfway to the article Nervous about Homeschooling in High School to be Ready for College. At the bottom of the arti...

Re: HOD Blog
Actually, I had just gotten the Teaching tip from HOD in my email. That's where I read the Streamlined lunches but down further they had the Graduate spotlight. It is in the blog though. I just don't know how to tell you right off quick where to find it as I rather stumbled onto it myself today.

HOD Blog
HI! Just wanted to let you know that I love the Streamlined lunch ideas. I am going to see what we can come up with for our family & may use some of the ideas that were listed. Also, I really love reading the Heart of Dakota Graduate Spotlight. I would really like to pick some of these families brai...

Re: We've gotten behind
Can credit still be given if one does not finish the guide in a school year?? They would certainly be learning a whole pile more than what would be covered in a workbook approach.

We've gotten behind
We've gotten behind.... I read this recently from the new hod blog : ("What did our family do when we were “behind”? I share this tip with you, because I know from personal experience what it’s like to be “behind." In one of our years of schooling, we were behind by 10 weeks by year-end. The year ha...

Re: Working in Beautiful Girlhood
Thanks for sharing your thoughts & experience. We likely will just hold off using it. Maybe I should get the book & read it myself so I'll have an idea what it's like.

Working in Beautiful Girlhood
My DD is 11 & currently using Preparing. I was wanting to use Beautiful Girlhood with her sometime, & would prefer, I think, to use the lesson plans in the Resurrection to reformation guide, BUT she won't be in that guide for at least a couple of years yet. That would make her at age 13 & by then wo...

Re: Ideas for Completing Guides?
Does it help you feel any better to know that my 5th grade / 11yo is finishing up Preparing and my almost 9yo 3rd grader is in the middle of Beyond? If the guide is working for them and they are progressing then they are not behind. Now that does make ME feel better :) tho it was intended for the O...

Re: Boys to Men and FRUSTRATION
I'm listening in too! I have 3 boys, 13, 16, & 18. This has been our battle too! I recently came across an article from deeprootsathome.com "Starving Brains & Poor Attention Span? 30 Quick Tips to Help Moms" There are a few other articles about boys but I haven't read them yet. I have found the 'gen...

Re: High School narrations
Basically I am looking for something that will help teach and give experience in taking notes & study skills should he decide to attend a Bible college or technical school. He has had experience with the regular narrations. We have one subject this past year where I had him switch over to narrating ...

Re: High School narrations
LynnH, thank you for sharing. That was very helpful & exactly the kind of a response I was hoping for. LovingJesus, We're thinking alike :) ANOTHER QUESTION: Could we jump into the last year without having come thru the other high school guides, would it be difficult to do the narrations as instruct...

High School narrations
Could someone give some explanation to the reasons or benefits of doing the various kinds of narrating as instructed in the high school guides, vs just, well, narrating.
