Re: HOD guides and CLEP question

Link removed by board moderator per board rules.

This gives you a little more information about CLEP.

Many colleges don't accept CLEP test scores. You'll have to check with the college that your child is interested in.

Re: WG Science

Mothermayi, Yes, it was big jump and very odd for us. WG was the only guide we did exactly as written. We loved it, but it was a lot of work. We are doing WH this year, but we skip a lot. No health or art projects or Pilgrim's Progress. We listen to PP on audio, but don't do anything else. That work...

Three kids combining - share books or get their own

My three middle boys are combined in Preparing right now. I wanted my younger two to have an independent science experience, but they weren't quite ready for the science when we started. So, I used some of the textbooks from CLP that are used in the younger guides. They read some and did a notebook ...

Re: OT: Dyslexia and NOT using OG method

Becky, are you talking about therapy such as is offered by Lindamood-Bell? I went to a workshop last week, and couldn't believe the price. Or is there some other vision therapy? LMB does offer training for parents that is reasonable, so I know that I can do that if I think I need to. Where do I get ...

Re: WH guide - Science test question

Carrie, Thank you so much! I went through and was recording grades for the semester. He's doing so well in biology, when I have a friend whose son is very smart who was doing poorly. I couldn't understand why, and was wondering if I was making it too easy. I sat with him and talked as I was grading,...

Re: WH guide - Science test question

bump. :)

Maybe its an individual decision? He's been doing open book, but I think we are going to transition to regular tests so that he will have the studying practice for college. I would still like to hear Carrie's input, though.

Re: What's after phonics?

Get a doc who is supportive of homeschooling. Seriously. Our ped doesn't question us, respects us immensely. Its not worth it to deal with that garbage, especially as they get older.

Re: Anyone use HOD for more than 2 kids?

We use HOD for 4+ of our kids. The oldest has his own guide, and the 10,9, and 8yo are in Preparing. My 6yo is using the right side of B, meaning we are using the math, storytime, phonics and fine motor suggestions. I don't really open the guide, though, I just do the next page or lesson. :) Next ye...

Slow math- lesson or time limit?

I have two kiddos working through Singapore 3a. One is slower than the other. Considetingvthe concept of short lessons, should I make them work an entire lesson or let them stop at a certain time period? The older is slower than the younger, so if he gets behind the younger he will feel bad. The you...

Re: OT: Dyslexia and NOT using OG method

Everyone, thank you. I have read every word and stored them up as we move forward. I'm not as overwhelmed today as I was yesterday, so that's something. :) Jenn, thanks for your words of encouragement. I sure do need them. You are one of several who have pointed me to AAR. That's a program that I ca...

OT: Dyslexia and NOT using OG method

I'm concerned that my almost 9yo might have dyslexia. We hit a wall with reading, and he's fairly "behind". I'm doing the research on dyslexia, but every website wants to sell me a product, so I'm getting pretty fed up with it all right now. There are so many different products, and a couple differe...

8yo needs reading improvement

My third grader needs to make some big jumps in his reading, and I'm really lost about what to do. I've been through this before with my oldest, but I still need advice. The other two older boys are natural readers, and the 7yo reads at a much higher level than the 8yo. I used the San Diego Quick As...

Re: Break from Guides for holidays or continue?

We usually take off a bunch for the holidays, but I found that it was hard to get back into the groove of things, AND that we always felt "behind". This year, we are taking a week off at Thanksgiving after finishing our first 12-week term. We are taking 2 weeks at Christmas (though I really doubt th...
