Re: HOD High School is a HUGE help!

I'll share my HOD HS experience here, too, if the OP doesn't mind. :) We've used HOD since my oldest started 4th grade. I had looked at it the year before, but had already purchased Sonlight. I spent the whole year trying to get Sonlight to work for us, but I was in the middle of having babies. I ha...

Re: Doctrinal issue. Please,any advice?

We've used all the guides, except CTC. Nealewill is correct, in that as the guides go on, there is more opportunity for discussion and there are more complex ideas introduced - nothing is black and white . Preparing, specifically, has the entire first half of the year discussing God's battle in brin...

Re: High School Geography

I agree that you are the mother. :) If tweaking doesn't bother you, then you can do as 8arrows suggested. Also, with logic, you could do the first book but not the second. Have him finish the second book next year, and give him credit then. :) If he does do the level of work required in WG, then mak...

Re: Quizlet for dictation

I tried it out, and we couldn't get it to work as well as we thought. It more hassle than worth, I think.

I just really need to steal some minutes with all these kiddos and little ones.

Re: High School Geography

I'm a big fan of tweaking and combining. I have my three middle sons in Preparing and we love it. We started HOD with my oldest, and we've already been through all the guides, so tweaking is easier for me *I think* than for someone just coming into HOD. Tweaking and combining CAN work, but I'm not s...

Quizlet for dictation

Has anyone done this? I am considering it, but I'm not sure it would work out. I'm trying to streamline teacher-intensive time as much as possible.

Re: Is anyone doing Latin?

My 16yo is using Visual Latin (supplemented with Lingua Latin) and loves it. VF says it is appropriate for 10 and up.

Re: Sneak Peek #3: New American History Guide

What a blessing to have a curriculum writer include courtship into their program. Thank you. I'm not at all surprised, considering the way that Carrie has always woven character and godliness into all the guides, but I was still floored and excited when I saw this sneak peek.

Re: NEED some reviews on World Geography Guide

We did WG last year, and we both loved it. It was a jump in the length of time needed per day, but honestly, any decent HS program is going to take time. For us, it 6+ hours a day. We started 6 weeks later in the year than we intended to, so we did school 5 days a week for the most part. My son like...

Re: A Child's Geo. in CTC

We will be doing CTC next year, and I know my middle boys will love the Geo book. :) It doesn't matter so much if mom always enjoys it.

I wasn't trying to complain either. My oldest did like her other geo book and learned quite a bit when he went through it in RTR.

Re: A Child's Geo. in CTC

Oh, I can't stand Ann Voskamp's style of writing. UGH. UGH. Way too cerebral for me. We skipped CTC when we went through with my oldest, and when he did her other Geography book in RTR for sciemce, he read on his own, so I didn't have to endure it. Of course, I never thought to ask him if he hated i...

Re: Res. to Ref. question

Also, that the APologia is listed K-6 because mom is reading aloud to the kids. In RTR the child is reading on their own, plus notebooking, reading other sources and doing science experiments.

Re: Upper Level Singapore Math

There's a thread where she explains it all. I can't find it now. :) But, yes, she says that most kids are ready to go into algebra 1 after Singapore 6b. She gave some ideas for pre-algebra if that was needed, but I cannot remember what they are. Maybe we can find that thread. :)

Re: Singapore Math

My oldest son started with Singapore many, many years ago. I think we did levels 1 and 2. We switched to MUS, because I was a new homeschooler and always looking for something better. ;) That was absolutely one of the top 3 worst mistakes of my homeschool career. :( I wish we had stuck with Singapor...

My oldest is doing WH this year. He's enjoying it. He especially loves the literature selections, which I was pleasantly surprised about. He LOVED Scarlet Pimpernell. Couldn't stop talking about it. :) He's enjoying all of his subjects, really. I'm very happy with everything, so far. We aren't doing...
