Re: Placement help for 4 year old
Or you could just keep on doing what you are doing, letting him learn naturally and don't do formal guide. There are plenty of years for that. These are the years for lots of play time!

Re: Upcoming School Year
Thank you so much for sharing Nealewill! Reading about the journeys of others in this homeschooling adventure is so encouraging. We are all on different ones, but so many things are similar. You are such a blessing to everyone here on this board.

Re: Help! I've got to change something, but what?
If you want to combine, I would have the younger one jump in with the older where he is right now in Preparing--or maybe back up a unit or 2 and start them depending on where a new book starts, etc. I wouldn't bring your older one down and your younger is right in the middle of the age range for the...

You are right Daybreaking! I read that sentence a few times and I don't think I'd had my coffee yet! I kept reading that it was 2 areas we already studied.

Re: Sneak Peek #6: New US2 History Guide
Looks fantastic!!! I love that you have thought outside the box and spent so much time reviewing and finding such incredible resources. Did you mean to say, "Studying these areas of science has the benefit of providing students with two differing areas of study from the sciences that have NOT alread...

If you have a son with dyslexia--it's very possible she could be also. I would stick with AAR.

Re: We're back
I agree with lmercon! I've been doing the "he can't move on in the guides because he can't do the independent things independently yet" thing for too long. He needs to move on with the material that he can thrive on intellectually--even though he can't read it with his eyes or do the copywork, etc. ...

Re: 2nd and 5th grader
It seems that Bigger would be a good fit for your younger one. There have been many 10 year olds doing Bigger. At that age you would want to do the extensions if possible. Your younger one would be on the lowest end of the age range for Preparing--actually lower. That's difficult to jump into that g...

Re: 2nd and 5th grader
Could you give a little more info about the kids? When you say 2nd and 5th--that's a big gap and is tough to combine. What are their ages, and where would each place on the placement chart if you look at them separately? Then we can look at the possibilities a little better. Welcome!

Re: Not finishing guide in HS ....what to do?
Just remember that the schools don't finish up what they are doing either! We rarely finished a textbook or math book or work book in school. The one who only did 1/2 I would probably just continue on from there for the next year. Maybe they can do some over the summer? The one with 7 weeks left, ma...

Re: Placement Help - Bigger
If he doesn't care about it, it's easier to say a different grade now rather than later. :) If that would bother him, then I wouldn't change--it doesn't really matter and his feelings are more important than anything else since it really doesn't affect anything else. If you need to change it when he...

The boxes on the left side go together very well. It's best to do those together.
