Re: Sneak Peek #10: New World Geography Guide

I had never heard of this before. In my head I was thinking this was an actual book, and googled it to price it. HAHA! Well this book will be priceless won't it?! The photos I saw of some homeschool book of centuries left me a little intimidated, but I know once we settle into it it will be amazing....

Re: Using audio portions of HOD

I highly recommend investing in lots of CDs such as Your Story Hour ( bible ones) , Jonathan Park, cedarmont kids CDs for little ones and The Singing Bible. My older ones have learned so much from Jonathan Park and Your story hour. We LOVE Johnathan Park! They also really love Adventures in Odyssey...

Re: Using audio portions of HOD

Thanks :) It just makes sense doesn't it? Ok, well I know what I'm doing tonight! **side note** I absolutely remember my Grandfather allowing me to sit at the kitchen table, and use his (huge) shiny, Sony Discman in the leather case. I felt so grown up and trusted. I would listen the the Amadeus sou...

Using audio portions of HOD

How do HOD moms handle using the Audio Cd's that sometimes accompany the bible or history packages? If you're lucky enough to still have CD walkman on hand, then hats off to you 8) ! We unfortunately gave up our Walkmen for Ipods years ago. So I've considered the following: *Buy a discman to keep on...

Taxation without representation

Learning about taxation without representation today. Started with a huge bowl of Mac and cheese. She was then "taxed", a spoonful at a time for the following things: wearing some thing green, 3 spoonfuls. Wearing something denim, which she escaped because she wasn't. living in a house with more tha...

Re: Placement Help, Please!

Hello Mary! I'm Juls :) This is our second year homeschooling, but our first using HOD. We are using Bigger and Preparing, so that's what 'm going to comment on for you. Bigger: My second grader is doing bigger. Long story short, she is an advanced 7yr old, and I don't feel like she's quite ready fo...

Re: How crucial are the book projects in DITHOR?

Okay. Because I'm the mom who totally forgot to even use her teachers guide for DITHOR, let alone the projects at the end of the lesson. Well. As Scarlet would say, tomorrow is another day. Better pull out all my books and give them a read through for tomorrows lesson! *facepalm*

Re: Getting ready for the coming school year.

Put a piece of washi tape on each book that goes with preparing, as well as on the guide. I picked red this time. For bigger, I used striped washi tape :) This was we can keep track of all the books that go with each guide. I then stocked up on composition notebooks, because we use those for our com...

Re: Slowing down a 3rd grader

Is your daughter doing everything in Bigger as intended, and doing well, and enjoying school? Then I think that slowing her down now might be counterproductive, as she might get bored. In this case, I would suggest letting her do what she is doing until she finishes Bigger, then take Preparing slow...

Re: Daily guide logistics: How do you keep yours?

So what I'm hearing is that everyone just opens and closes their books as needed? I have have used A cookbook stand to keep books open at all times, but mostly just have mine out on the couch or table open to the page. I think i'm going to try to use a wall mount book with a bar to hold the guides s...

Re: Slowing down a 3rd grader

We are not currently using the extensions, but that's something to think about. We would only be using from Unit 17 on. We started our year late, so we are a bit behind, and only on unit 13 right now. If she starts unit 14 at half pace, that will give us 8 weeks and "finish" the school year at the e...

Slowing down a 3rd grader

I have a daughter who is turning 7 this week. She my overachiever (and I love her) and is a 2nd grader this year. I have her doing Bigger this year. She is half way through it now. But seeing the work my son is doing in preparing as a fourth grader, and the flow of guides left to work through, I thi...

Daily guide logistics: How do you keep yours?

How do you keep your guide/s during the day while they're being used? I've put mine in a binder so they lay flat, and sometimes lay them end to end on the back of the couch during the day lol. it works until a kid or cat knocks them over. I think I need to create a 3 guide book holder ! Maybe attach...

Re: How independent is Preparing??

Pretty I'd say. My son does Teaching textbooks, science, grammar,Dithor, and independent history study on his own, but I check the work. Instead of me reading aloud in history and storytime, I have him read it allowed to me, just because I know it helps him retain more that way. We do the history que...
