Re: for the love of a two year old

wow, daybreaking. that is quite a thorough list. We don't have nearly as many fun activities as you do, so maybe we will come to your house and play! So it looks like you have two weeks of activites, so that they rotate? Is that correct? I will have to figure out what toys I can rotate in a list lik...

Re: for the love of a two year old

Thank you all! I love the idea of the rotating blocks. Would you mind sharing your 15 blocks, daybreaking? I have a feeling next year I will need that even more when my older two move on to Beyond. I am blessed that my kiddos get along well and I can trust both of them to play nicely with my 2yo for...

Re: How we do 3 day weeks for entire school career!

This is great! How do you fit your extras in on the other days? Do you split them up so you are still doing five days a week? Did you do any extras for LHFHG?

for the love of a two year old

I am sure there is great advice on this site about homeschooling with a two year old (and next year a newborn) underfoot, however, I can't find any threads yet. We are doing well for the most part: my two year old will play quietly in his room while we do table work and will sit on my lap (mostly) q...

Re: Supplementing Singapore

Thank you, Julie! I appreciate your replay and taking the time to explain how the math has worked for you. Nobody in my circle of homeschool famillies (not that I know very many, mind you!) is doing Singapore. Most are doing MUS, so it is hard for me to get a grasp on what my children are supposed t...

Re: Supplementing Singapore

Thank you, Julie. I will go back to those hands on activities today. Since Singapore is different than the way I was taught, it seems to take me a bit to understand how to explain the process between the mental math and writing it down. That is something I never did when I was learning math. At what...

Re: Switching it up this New Year?

Thank you for all the advice! It would definitely be nice to keep them together! I think I will try and stick with that for awhile. The easier pace of the stories and history for my son allows us extra time to work on his reading and math which i feel is important right now. We will keep plugging aw...

Re: Singapore 1a math help

Ok! We will work on modeling and practicing the sentences. He does enjoy answering the sentences verbally. In fact both kids ask me to make up math problems for them to solve when we are out and about driving in the car and such. We will slow down and see if he can learn how to write the sentences! ...

Singapore 1a math help

Hi... At the risk of this question getting lost at the end of another post, I will repost here! My 7yo son is going through Singapore 1a right now and finding adding/subtracting very frustrating. I think I may have taught it poorly or misunderstood the main point of the hands on activities in the HO...

Re: Switching it up this New Year?

I am also glad to hear you say that the storytime books are challenging for that age group. That makes me feel better about her challenges to retain the story!

Re: Switching it up this New Year?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, storytime is one of the main reasons. It seems to be the only part of LHFHG that she doesn't click with. My son loves the stories. I do ask them individual questions and it is almost like she has chosen not to listen so she doesn't know the answer. I have tried switching s...

Switching it up this New Year?

Hello! I currently have two kiddos doing HOD: ds (7) and dd(5). (Technically 2nd grade and K). Both are in LHFHG. My reasons for combining: I was trying to keep things simple for us and I love the connectedness/friendship my two kiddos have going through school together. They are good friends. Also,...

Re: I must be doing this wrong...

Just wanted to add, in case you check this again, I've just recently picked up some of Sally Clarkson's books since I was in need of encouragement personally, as a mommy, and they have been wonderful. Right now reading "Seasons of a Mother's Heart" which is meant to be an encouragement for homeschoo...

Re: Supplementing Singapore

I'm a bit late to jump in on this discussion, but I visited the forum today to see if i could get help with almost this exact thing. My 7yo son is going through Singapore 1a right now and finding adding/subtracting very frustrating. I think I may have taught it poorly or misunderstood the main point...

Re: 2 digit horizontal addition Singapore Math question

Wow! Thanks for the replies. We both enjoy Singapore better than MUS anyway, so it will be nice to go back and just work though continually like Julie suggested. Julie, we are using the Beyond guide for the hands on activities for 1A, so we do not have the textbook. Did you go thru the textbook, HOD...
