Another praise for HOD regarding dyslexic son and testing!

My 14 yo severely dyslexic son had to take standardized testing per state requirements. He has used HOD since first grade. He will be an incoming ninth grader this year. He has to take two reading tests. One is word recognition where he hears a word aloud and then selects from multiple choices which...

Re: frustrations with Spanish

I'm no help to you at all, but I do have a question. Would you be willing to elaborate on why Rosetta stone didn't work for you? I was considering it for my severely dyslexic son for next year. I loathe having to make him learn another language, but it's a requirement. I can't use a program that req...

MTMM DNA science kit help needed! Please! UPDATE!

HELP!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!! My son is starting the DNA kit in MTMM. We did the first experiment where you separate the DNA from the tomato. We've attempted it two times. When you mix the soap/salt mixture with the tomato pieces, it makes so much foam that it's all foam. We've let it drip for al...

Re: Placement Question for those with Dyslexics

As I think back, I don't think we noticed a huge leap of required skills and difficulty level between Res. to Res. and Rev. to Rev. I would take into consideration how you wanted to handle the upcoming high school years. You can definitely beef up these guides to make them credit worthy, but that wi...

Re: Placement Question for those with Dyslexics

Hi! I feel your pain, and I completely understand what you are going through! I would say that no child is too old to jump into HOD, so don't let that stop you. I've always firmly held to the belief that a dyslexic child must be placed at his/her cognitive level, not at his/her skill level and then ...

I wish I had the guts to leave HOD for a year!

LOL! Did I get you with that subject title? In all seriousness, I do wish that. But I don't have the nerve. I don't want my kids to miss a single thing in HOD. My children have used HOD every year of their schooling except my oldest son's kindergarten year. They are SPOILED, and they don't get it! I...

Re: Health update/prayer request NEW UPDATE

Goodness! That's a lot to pray for! I'll be praying for peace of spirit and mind and much wisdom as you seek to meet your needs and the needs of your kids. I'm humbled by your post as it has put my complaining spirit in its place!

Re: Praise for HOD and encouragement for those w/ dyslexic k

Thank you, my3sons, for your encouragement! Wow! I had no idea that my little journey would be helpful to others. That blesses my soul and humbles me. Thanks for all you and Carrie do for us. My hsing journey with my kids is incomparably joyous to what it would be with any other program. As a former...

Praise for HOD and encouragement for those w/ dyslexic kids

My ds is 14 and using MTMM. He has used HOD since first grade when we started with Beyond. He is severely dyslexic. We've had to add in, for many years, additional work for his dyslexia. I've had to read EVERYTHING to him. I lost my voice for several months last year from reading aloud for so many h...

Just a local place called, "Pottsgrove Manor." He basically founded a local town and was a major economic contributor to Revolutionary war efforts. I live in southeast PA, so lots of history around here.

Starting the year off with a fun DITHOR activity!

I'm determined to do a better job incorporating DITHOR into our schedule on a more regular basis. I was reading through the kick-off ideas for the first genre, biography. I saw that one was a trip to a local historical home. The suggestion was to tour the home and try to learn as much about the pers...
