Re: Child read Bigger herself?
So, my just turned 10 year old is in Bigger. Should she be reading her history and science to herself? Anything else? If so, do I then read it myself so I know what she's reading and to do the narration? My DD 10 is in Bigger as well. I also have a 12YO DS with autism in Bigger. My DD could definit...

Re: HS question: Incorporating the beef-ups
what I do is make a check-off sheet with each subject that she needs to do daily and then laminate it. I do this with all of my kids. Then I hung the laminated subject check-off sheets on hooks on my kitchen wall. They put a check on each subject with their dry erase marker as they complete it and ...

Re: Where To Start
Our situation is not quite the same as this will be our 3rd year with HOD, but we did come to it pretty late for my 14YO DS. I started him (7th) in Preparing as I was trying to combine children. This was way too easy, so I moved him up to RTR this year (8th). (both with extensions). Next year he wil...

Re: Extensions question
I would say mainly by age, but it also depends on the child. My DD 10 is an avid reader, but somewhat lacking in writing/notebooking skills. I kept her back a year in the guides because she was struggling with so many of the assignments, but she reads like crazy, so the extenion books make it possib...

Re: Writing Program and R&S for RtR?
Yes, you need both (unless you choose a different writing program). The writing assignments in R&S are pretty minimal. Most lessons are strictly grammar (parts of speech, punctuation, capitalization). There are a few assignments on poetry, dictionary use, and paragraph writing or writing a book repo...

Re: History and science extensions with CtC and others.
Julee, The extension books are in additon to everything in the Economy and Basic packages. The extension books are scheduled in the back of the guide. There are no questions or activities to go with them. I just have my kids read them and give an oral narration. We are doing CTC with extension next ...

Re: Schooling through the summer?
We used to school year-round, but as my kids have gotten older (and started having PS friends) this has not worked for us. However, I don't want them to lose skills (plus I find that total free-time for 3 months is too much for them to handle), so we do a little school most days. We do reading and a...

Re: Do you use a typing program?
All my kids have use Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. It is a CD-rom program. It has lessons and games for practice. When you are learning, it shows a keyboard on the screen with semi-transparent hands which show you which finger to use and where the key is. My kids love it and my older two type faster ...

Re: Rev to Rev for a High School Sophomore
Bible--She will more follow the Bible from CTC that her brothers are doing, using part of The History and Geography of the Bible and The Greatest Thing You'll Ever Study. That's an interesting idea. We are also using Rev2Rev for 9th grade next year. Our schedule looked very similar to everyone else...

Re: Choosing Curriculum?
All in all I was hoping to purchase, Bible, Grammar, Math, Writing/Reading and Spelling I have only used Bigger, Preparing and RTR, but a lot of the Christ-centered nature of the program is in the History. I know Story of the World is Christian as well, but I have used Vol 1 and Vol 2, and HOD hist...

Re: High school Economics question
This may be out of a lot of people's budgets, but my high school DS did Dave Ramsey's "Foundations in Personal Finance" homeschool course. It has DVDs, a workbook, study guides and tests. It does not cover a lot of national/global ecomonics and does not really touch on political subjects, but it is ...

Re: The Noble Experiment - Opinions?
I have not used Notgrass, although I spent quite a bit of time at last year's convention going back and forth about those two. I ended up going with Noble Experiment. I was thinking that it would be nice to have the videos and hear someone talking about the subjects. I also liked having 5000 Year Le...

Re: Apologia Science
The great thing about HOD is that it is so easy to substitute in one area or another. This is only our 2nd year in HOD. My oldest (missed out on HOD) has used several of the Apologia high school sciences and we have loved them. My DS (15) who will be using Rev2Rev next year for 9th grade, has alread...

We also keep a sterilite container for each guide with the books that are coming up. And then each child has a sterilite container with their name on it. Their math book, HOD books, spiral notebooks for dictation, common place books, and R&S textbook & workbook are in their box. (I have 2 combined i...
