Read-aloud question

Okay, so this question isn't exactly HOD related, but it is about something pretty central to our days: reading out loud to our kids. This is something we've always done together, usually reading books considered above their level (when they read to me they read books at their levels). Now, we're do...

Re: Toddler Blanket Time: who does this?

Thanks Julie! In a farther update he continues to do very well with 7-10 minutes of blanket time with interesting toys to play with. He really seems to get it! I'm so thankful the Lord led me to a good way for him to be amused while I do a little bit of school. I'm sure not every kid picks it up th...

Re: Toddler Blanket Time: who does this?

Okay so this is hilarious, today was our first trial of teaching him how to do blanket time. I got out this toy that a friend of mine made, a butter tub with holes in the lid and little puff balls to put in the holes. He sat happily for 10 minutes and did not stir while he played with the puff ball...

Re: Interested in Beyond for 1st grade. Torn between MFW.

Welcome to the board! The ladies here are great! I have not used MFW so I can't chime in on that part of your decision. I'm sure that you'll get plenty of good advice  Just a word about the history in Beyond Little Hearts. I've seen it mentioned twice in the last two days that the history is "...

Re: Taking the plunge

Welcome to the board! Since you're already familiar with HOD, I think that adding two more next year won't be as challenging as you think  Also, since you're already familiar with your childrens' individual challenges (and won't be completely focused on the 'delays' or 'issues' etc. the way pu...

Re: Question RE: phonics/reading

Thank you everyone for your replies :D I am always unsure what to do with my kids because they progress much faster than I am ready for them to  Despite her age, my daughter is perfectly placed in Beyond, and she is loving it. Then, a few months ago, I sat down with my son and some flash cards,...

Re: New LHFHG Guide

You guys, certainly HOD really isn't behind grade level... Right?? Someone chime in on this if you can. I understand that in homeschooling you have a different scope and sequence than the schools so your kids might not test as well as other kids because they haven't studied the same stuff that year...

Question RE: phonics/reading

Good evening, ladies! :D You've helped so much in the past, and I need your advice again. My son Joel will be 4 next month. We are doing Little Hands to Heaven, and it is a perfect fit! We are really enjoying it and taking it slow so that he will be about 5 when we finish, so we can move right on in...

Re: A-A-Adam

:D We love LHTH too! We are on Unit 8 and my little boy still begs to do A-A-Adam every single day. He loves that very first finger play. None of the others have come close to that one!

Thanks for sharing!

Great question! I was wondering too. LHFHG will be one of my next HOD purchases in a year or so.

Re: help with 4 yr old

You could also choose to do it 1/2 speed - 3 days a week or something - and then it would take longer than a year to complete. This is what I was trying to do. We may do full speed for the summer since I skipped so much this school year. I have a little boy who is 3 yrs 10 months old, and we are do...

The good and the bad about HOD :)

The bad: that I didn't find HOD a few years ago  The good: that I only wasted a few hundred dollars and not a few thousand  I have decided, after worrying that Beyond simply wouldn't challenge my rising first grader enough, to simply buy the entire Beyond program complete with read-alouds ...

this is what convinced me that some kids are harder than others. Just so I know...what helps more, age or discipline? Some kids definitely are harder than others. I have 3...two are normal and one is completely over the top. I call her the poster child for "The Strong Willed Child" lol. She wants w...

Great question! Thanks for asking! I was wondering the exact same thing...but I thought my math was just really bad
It's nice to hear that it's okay to finish early...and that it's okay to take your time and stretch things out if you need to. Thanks :D

Re: Week-in-Review: April 8-12

I love looking at everyone's week! :P Seeing the curriculum in action is very encouraging. We finished up Unit 6 in LHTH this week, and are really having fun with it! I don't have any pictures (bad mommy  ) but there are so many highlights! We loved the story of Joseph! We spent a lot of time t...
