Re: Am I the Only One Who Has.....
I, too, have to reuse the guides with all four kids. Or at least, from the point we are starting on. But I get that they like to check things off, or cross them out, or whatever floats their boat, as a reward for finishing the activity. So I cut the binding from my guide and put the pages for one un...

Question about Extensions
Hi there, This is our first year with HOD and with Charlotte Mason ideas in general. As such, when my 8th grader began Rev2Rev, I did not have her doing any extensions. I want to change that up now that we are past that initial transition. But I am unsure of how these are supposed to work. Are the e...

Re: What is one area in which you've seen growth or progress
Great and timely thread! My just-turned-five-year-old is using LHFHG. She loves it! We are going slow - top half of both pages one day, bottom half of both pages the next. Her reading is really taking off. But she enjoys school so much so that she is mad we are taking a one week break for Thanksgivi...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...
As far as science goes, at this point our plan is to either list all 3 sciences by page number, experiment number etc. in the daily plans or else in the Appendix. If we go the Appendix route, we would have 3 separate sciences in list form by unit and day in the Appendix (similar to the math plans c...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...
I believe the best plan would be a DETAILED DAILY SCHEDULE. My high school teaching days were so busy with so many extras (college application, ACT deadlines, grad requirements, commencement) that I had little time to plan what each day would look like and I must confess that kiddos did wait till t...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...
As mentioned in this thread already, I agree that the junior and senior years are very different from the freshman and sophomore years in work level and expectations. So, this might mean that a possible format change could be better at that level? :D I agree with this idea, that the freshman/sophom...

Re: As we move into high school, the design of the guides...
In thinking about my objectives for high school, one of the most important ones is to set my kids up for success in college, should they choose that route. In college, they will not be given a list of daily assignments. Truth be told, they won't be given a list of weekly ones either with any specifi...

Re: Turning our eyes toward the geography guide...
I'm curious, given that these are high school guides, if there has been any thought into providing two versions of the guides - one that is more student directed, and one that is more parent/teacher directed. One problem I have with my 6th and 8th grader working out of the guidebook is that I don't ...

Re: What guides are you doing?
We are doing LHFHG half speed with my almost 5 year old dd. We're doing our half speed a little differently, however, in order to even out the amount of time each day. Because the reading and math take longer, we do the top line from both pages on one day, and the bottom line the next. It's working ...

Re: Hubby Using HOD With Children =)
Wow! That is wonderful! I can't imagine my DH doing anything school related with the kids. He tries to avoid it at all costs.
Continuing to pray for your recovery. I'm amazed at all you've managed so far, based on your blog. Blessings.

Re: August 13th-17th
I'm excited to post about our first week with HOD. It was a busy week, as we also had swim lessons every morning, so we only took things half pace. But it was great to be back in the homeschool swing of things.

All jazzed to start today and then . . .
we found out late last week that my eldest daughter advanced to the semi-final round of our County Fair Talent Competition. She will be performing tomorrow evening. So, instead of beginning our HOD adventure today, we are waiting to see if she makes it to the finals on Saturday. If she doesn't move ...

Organization Question for RTR and Rev2Rev
Hello, I'm trying to get a jump on my list making and organizing at the beginning of the summer (rather than the last minute.) :) In trying to put together a list of school supplies for the sales that will come out in about three to four weeks  , I'm wondering how many notebooks I need to pla...

Re: Feeling like the worst mom ever!
Well, since I thought I had that title myself, you can't be the worst ever. Maybe you just are in a tie with me. :) Remember, there isn't anything we can do or say to our kids that the LORD's blood can't cover. That has been my mantra as of late. And I'm willing to bet that your DD is willing to for...
