Re: Is it time to uncombine?
I never split unless absolutely necessary. There is just not enough of me to go around, and I don't like being on different time periods. I like to preread what the children are reading, and I can't do that with everyone reading everything different. It is just logistically too many books to juggle ...

Re: Update on WH guide?
Motherjoy, We also did the week off the internet. That will just give us another week to go half-speed. :) I loved Carrie's post. There is so much wisdom there. I already had a child behind 10 pages in science. (This is our third week of school, and I thought I was checking.) It is very hard to get ...

Re: Schedule for World History?
Carrie said they were shipping the first week of September. I am having my daughter do 1/2 of the first week this week and 1/2 next week (the first week sample), and we will be good to go with week 2 when the materials arrive. She will just need to copy anything that she had to do on paper into her ...

Re: Help running 3 Guides +
I think the best advice for scheduling is this: What gets inspected, gets accomplished. Schedule times for check-ins to grade and listen to narrations and discuss. This is just as important as the teaching time. This is one area I am ramping up this year! Enjoy your year!

Re: Checklist - Four guides
I think your idea to do Bible memory work together is a good one. We work on chapters of the Bible together. The little ones don't get all of it all the time, but they do get big chunks of it, and it is definitely something we can all do together. I can't get your sheet to pop up bigger on my comput...

Re: MTMM for 9th grade
I would highly recommend the story time books. They added so much to our year. I also think the American Testimony DVDs are a must have for high school (from the extension package). Are you doing the President study? Those DVDs really added to the connections my children made this year as well.

I spoke with Julie on the phone per my order a couple of days ago (always so helpful!). Carrie and Julie are wonderful! I am so thankful for the time they pour into our lives.

Re: How much reading is too much for my emerging reader?
I like the 2 sessions idea. I am thinking through this with you as I need to push my emerging reader a little too. She is number 7 and we are in the midst of rearranging rooms as one heads off to college. I need to keep on top of this!!!

Re: World History Guide up on the website
I just ordered this a couple of days ago, and the books (except for the guide and some of the notebook pages--see note on ordering) are already here and in my schoolroom! I am very excited, and so is my daughter!

Re: Totally overwhelmed, New to HOD, placement?
I would not keep a child back for cursive. I think Preparing for the 10 and 11 year olds would be a good fit--and with a larger family, usually, some combining is nice. It sounds like RTR (Resurrection to Reformation) might be a nice fit for the oldest. This also puts all your groups with a year in ...

Have you already done Beyond? If neither one of the boys is ready for the writing in Bigger, would Beyond be a better fit?

I would combine them in LHFHG. There are plenty of options to up the level of work for the 6 year old.
