Re: Is there a "preparing for World Geography" type post?
Those currently using WG or who have used WG, do you have any other suggestions for prepping for the guide? I am spending the next week getting things printed and I'm hoping for a little more guidance with the Mapping through Art printings. For example, are all of the activities scheduled? I'm one w...

Re: Preparing and English 2?
Yes, English 3 for 4th grade would be ideal. We are using Preparing and R&S 3 now ourselves. I will say that I'm constantly amazed at how much is jam packed into Rod and Staff Grammar. Today, my dd 10 was diagramming a 2 part subject, verb, direct object, adverb, and adjective. We are getting toward...

Re: Question? thinking of switching guide mid semester
My youngest daughter enjoyed challenging herself and moving at a quickened pace through some of the early guides. I always finished one before moving on to the next because it gave me peace of mind that there would be no gaping holes in her early education. :) If she's terribly unchallenged then you...

Re: Additions or electives
Thank you, StephanieU, for reminding me of PE.
We are getting ready to start High School work and I'm trying to make sure I've gotten everything covered.

Additions or electives
I know that HOD includes most of these all ready (art, music, logic, art history, foreign language, economics) but what do I need to add besides a typing course if I run the complete course with HOD?

Re: Ancient Bible in WH?
Carrie, Thank you for your response! This really helps me in thinking through our next few years and it gives me a peace about covering this important time once again. I think I might have learned (and retained) more than dd with our first pass through Ancients since she was so young. I am thankful ...

Re: Help with poor attitude.....need advice....
I remembered posting a similar question several years ago when I was struggling with my dd's attitude. I felt so encouraged and helped by the responses: http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9183 Just so you know, we got through that time just fine and I have a lovely, hardworking ...

Re: Ancient Bible in WH?
Thanks, Lynn. I hadn't remembered all of that being typed out in the sneak peek. It's good to know that WG doesn't necessarily spend a lot of time in that area. We might do a review of the CTC notebook in that case.

Ancient Bible in WH?
I was not able to find a Table of Contents on the new WH Guide so I was hoping someone could help me out. Is there mostly a secular historical focus in this guide or is there is a good amount of content on Israel and the Hebrews. My dd13 is finishing MMtM and really feels sad that she can't remember...

Re: VideoText Algebra and Creating Transcripts
I'm wondering if the OP got her answer from the company. We are finishing Unit 1 this week using Videotext online. That might be Module A using the DVD's. We've spent a good 6 months on it because my dd's Pre-Algebra skills needed some extra work (even coming from Singapore 6  ) and I've been v...

Re: Question on how to get my son inspired?
Annalisa,
I think all caring moms second guess themselves at least once a day over something!
How old is your son and what guide is he working out of?
Do you have some sort of written schedule?

Re: Science - Biology PACES - DVDs
Becky, You can certainly follow HOD's plans (though it sounds like you are farther along than the WH writing is so far) but just don't fret over the grades and such! I fully plan to use the HOD Guide Science box for pacing but not require the same written goals (mine will be a notebook requirement r...

Re: Science - Biology PACES - DVDs
In terms of short essays exams...personally, I think that is a great alternative to using Biology PACE as written. I will insist that dd learn to outline broadly from any science text in HS focusing on diagrams. I will sit with her for the first few weeks and outline alongside her as I think this is...

Re: Science - Biology PACES - DVDs
Becky, I have heard wonderful things about the Biology DVD's though I don't own them. I have read all of the Biology PACES and have them in front of me now. Have you considered dropping the assessment part of the text and talking through it instead? I would sit down with your ds over this week and g...

Re: Determining Dictation levels?
I would start with the lowest level of dictation in each guide and work through it little by little. I'm one of those who does it as written. We started in Preparing with my oldest who is now finishing up MMtM and the Level 8 Dictation. I am so glad that I had her do dictation from the beginning lev...
