Re: How do you teach a SM lesson in 3A and higher?
I have a piggyback question. What Julie and Carrie have shared is like a breath of fresh air, as far as math instruction and manageable lessons. I like the idea of shorter lessons, as we currently take at least an hour a day on math with the program we're using as our core. My worry is that I've al...

Re: R&S English: DS9 is not challenged with Level 3
Actually, if you take a look at the Preparing "packages" page, both R&S English 3 and 4 are offered as options. I think Carrie would be the first to say to have the LA fit the child. I've often seen it recommended to do the the right side of one manual with the left of another. Currently, we're doin...

Re: Dictation is not going well
I agree with the other posters. When we do dictation, I have my ds study the passage. When he's ready, I remove the passage and give him the first sentence. He repeats it back to me and then writes it. Next, I say the second sentence, he repeats it back to me, and then he writes it. We follow the sa...

Re: OT Teacher organization: What are you doing...
We, too, leave our computer on all the time, so I understand the temptation to be on more than I should. Using a schedule has been the best thing that has helped me limit my computer time. With my schedule, I have a set time each evening that I check e-mails, blogs, etc. The other hours of the day a...

Bigger Extension Books - How long?
I'm considering reading the Bigger extension books together with my ds, either my reading aloud to him, or he to me. I'm wondering how long I should plan for this in our schedule. Thanks!

Re: How do you facilitate poetry copywork?
We used a Mead journal (one of those black and white composition ones). This worked really well, as it kept the poems all intact, rather than having loose papers around. Another plus is that my ds still will frequently thumb through his book and read the poems. As he reviews his work, I can sense he...

Re: CHOW concerns
I'm wondering if you meant a different book? On Amazon, all of CHOW's reviews are 5 star. I'm thinking you might have been asking about CLP's "A Child's Story of America" which does cover the Clinton saga. Either way, if I have a book that I consider an excellent reference, but that contains some ma...

Re: OT Chores for Littles (3-5)
We use chore charts twice a day, after breakfast and after dinner. There are other tasks they do, such as picking up toys before bed, but the chore charts are their "official" chore times. For my 9yo ds, I have just have the chores listed. For my 4yo dd, I have a chart with pictures of her tasks. He...

Re: Question for NY'ers using HOD
Honestly, I don't keep track of hours, either. I do keep track of our attendance and I have a schedule that we follow, so I could tally the hours if needed. After reading Julie's post, I know we're well beyond the minimum required hours, so on each of my quarterly reports, I simply put 225+ for numb...

Actually, the 13th "song" (Do You Know What it Means?) is just a glossary of terms and not an actual song.Tansy wrote:here is the link to the book on the HOD site

I forgot to mention in my last post that plain water works great with the dry erase crayons, as well.GinainMD wrote:They come with a special cloth for erasing but it takes a bit of elbow grease so we have been using Windex and paper towels on ours and they come right off.

Re: FYI white boards.
I have them and love them, but I also discovered the regular "washable" Crayola crayons work just as well and are much cheaper. Plus, I love how a simple swipe of a wet cloth (no scrubbing at all ) completely clears the board.
