Okay, I am finding the teacher manual frustrating because you cannot open it up all the way. I really want to spiral bind it, but I'm worried it will get ruined easier...

Re: box day!! woot woot!!!!
Yay for you!!! We got ours on Monday and we started on Tuesday. That is amazing to me. I really should have maybe waited another day just a lil more organized, but we are doing good even still. I am so shocked that I actually have everything we need for the year. Its all taken care of! What a blessi...

Re: Horizons to Singapore
I am also thinking of switching. We enjoyed Horizons K, but I think Singapore would do a better job at really helping the child think mathematically...I think? My daughter LOVED doing her horizons math and she zoomed through her workbooks. I do not want her to struggle in the upcoming year. She is n...

Re: Keeping up with reading?
Good morning Julie! Thank you so much for your reply. I actually bought the extension pack from preparing to give to my son for extra reading (when he has finished his school work :D ). I'm not requiring it, but I don't have to really...he's already drooling over the books & we haven't gotten them y...

Re: Keeping up with reading?
It is such a blessing to have children who love to read and how important that they read good books. What a great problem to have, is it not? We check out gobbs of books at the library. But I always preread evrything first. Yes, a blessing that he is a great reader, but at the same time a struggle ...

Re: Praise, Prayer & Thanks!!
-Oh yes, I know those days well! LOL!
Just wanted to mention...water.
Chug it before you go to bed (if it makes you sick to drink too much).
But, however you do it, it makes a big difference!
Praise God for your new little blessing!!

Keeping up with reading?
Or maybe that's backwards from what I'm trying to ask... My son reads. A lot. He can read a book in a day. (or two!) How is this going to work with preparing? I've been thinking of setting up a rule that he has to finnish the entire day of school before he can move ahead at all. But, since it's a un...

Re: How much time per day - Preparing?
I found it! Carrie wrote: Each box of lessons in Preparing.... is meant to be done in about 20 minutes or less (with the exception of Drawn into the Heart which will take 30 minutes and math which may take up to 30 minutes). If you are going longer than that, you need to adjust the assignment or ste...

Re: Preparing: Deluxe package, Extension package, or neither?
Another great idea is to get just the deluxe, then for summer time get the extension for pleasure reading. I got both, but I am not going to require the extension during the school year since my goal is to teach independence. We just happen to have had the finances to purchase both. I love the...

Re: Need advice with Preparing
Just to help Mom (and you) feel better, I am in the same boat with my 11yo 5th grader. This is one of the reasons I turned to HOD. I have been getting discouraged and I couldn't find a way to combat this on a daily basis. I am praying that this year (using preparing) will challenge him to work on th...

Re: How much time per day - Preparing?
That's what I'm hoping I can do, show him the goal of being done by lunch! :D I SOOOooo want this year to be an encouraging one for him! I am praying for him to have a renewed confidence and a great feeling of independence. Although he is by nature a "dreamer," I really believe that his ability catc...

How much time per day - Preparing?
I read somewhere how long each box should take, but i can't find it. I know the total time should be somewhere between 4-4 1/2 hrs. My son is a bit of a dawdler. My prayer is that by me being more prepared (and having to spend less time preparing...) this year I might be able to help him conquer thi...

Re: A little schedule change, and WOW
I was just going to suggest that maybe you could start your morning with say 3 things that you always do as soon as you get up (whatever time), say Bible, Shower, Start Laundry. Whatever the 3 may be, it would be a start where you're using a routine. KWIM? Later you could add another 2 things, then...

Re: A little schedule change, and WOW
Oh, I love to MAKE schedules! Following them...um...not so much. LOL! I HAVE gotten to the point (a few times now, finally!) that the schedule is a blessing, instead of always feeling guilty about not being able to follow it. I can totally relate! I am saying this to say - it really is possible to h...
