Re: World Geography English 1 vs Fund Lit & Engl/Comp
I'm pretty sure both options are the same; it's just a matter of how you want to list it on your child's transcript. Some prefer to list just one credit of English (which includes both English/Composition & Literature), whereas others prefer to break the two areas apart into two 1/2 credit courses, ...

Re: CTC after PHFHG?
I agree with Rice! :-) Preparing is a one-year overview of world history. After that, world history is again studied chronologically, but spread over four years to allow for much more depth. I believe a combination of the resources used in CTC and the way history is studied in a more detailed manner...

Re: Interest in Reviving the Board?
Oh, yes!!! It would be great to see the board revived. I've been a part of the board for over almost 11 years, ever since we began HOD with my little boy in Beyond Little Hearts. He is now finishing up his high school journey, with HOD still being a wonderful part of that journey. I have been tremen...

Re: Struggling Learner Getting Further and Further Behind
How does your son do when material is read to him, rather than him reading it himself? If he does much better with comprehension with materials read to him, then I'm wondering if you could move from having him read the CTC material himself, to listening to it read aloud. If he has dyslexia, it is no...

Re: NBing pages & new guides: moving forward
With the current guide, students make their own notebooks, using a 3-ring binder. All of the instructions are in the guide and are easy for the students to follow. HTH

Re: A Detailed Scope and Sequence?
I have received all the materials needed to implement what we discussed. Now that I am looking at the details, if I have Ruth do the extensions in MTMM, what incentives does she have to read those books? The teacher's guide has activities for the basic books but no activities for the extension book...

Re: How to Conquer the End-of-day Correcting Pile-up
For some subjects, it works best for me to correct work with my child at the beginning of each oral time. For instance, when I sit down to do English or math with one of my children, we first correct the work from the previous day before doing the oral for the new day's lessons. I'm much more consis...

Re: Check-in: What guides are you using?
We are long-time HOD users here. Life threw us a wrench that kept us from having a smooth homeschooling path, when my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's five years ago and I became her primary caregiver. When it got too difficult to manage things from a distance two years ago, we moved my mom in wit...

Hi, Julie. (I wish there was a way to get "notified" with responses so that I would know to check back! If there is an option...I don't know about it. Please forgive my delayed response! At the bottom of each post is a box you can check to subscribe to the post and then you'll get e-mails ev...

Re: Using math textbooks and grammar teacher’s guide
For grammar, the teacher's guide has all of the answers, making it much easier to grade a student's work, so I think it's well worth the cost. I have also found the oral drills and "written" (we do them orally) quizzes, found in the teacher's book, to be an amazing tool to help solidify the material...

Re: Placement Advice (9th grade)
I'm also from NY and agree with rumkimom that it would be no problem to use MTMM for 9th. My son is currently finishing 9th grade and we're not yet in the high school guides, yet had no problem getting our IHIP accepted.
