Question About HOD Highschool Courses & CLEP Compatibility
My oldest dd graduated last year and has been taking Psychology 101, English 101 and College Algebra at the local community college. She said she wishes she had just taken the CLEP tests since she is just repeating what she already knows. I want to spare my other two children the same issue as they ...

Re: Transitioning from Worktexts to HOD (High School)
My second daughter did her first HOD guide last year. We started in the World Geography guide. We had taken an eclectic approach to school until that point and I was concerned about placement as well. I agree with Lynn H, these guides are heavy on the reading and writing expectations. Being confiden...

Re: Question for high school moms-foreign language
Here in Georgia, ASL is accepted and counts for your foreign language requirements. Check your states university system requirements along with any individual schools you are interested in.

Re: Advice Needed for Choosing School Name for Diploma
I love both of those names! Our street name is Trudie. I just don't like that for a diploma. Since my oldest did not use HOD for highschool, we decided to choose a name based on our belief that God called us to homeschool from public school. We chose Providence Harbor Christian Academy. Providence :...

Need Graduation Celebration Ideas. Anyone like to share?
I will be graduating my first child very soon. She doesn't want a big to-do made over it. The only thing she has asked for graduation is to have a few Senior pictures made. She doesn't want a class ring, cap and gown or big ceremony of any kind. She doesn't understand why people make such a big deal...

Advice Needed for Choosing School Name for Diploma
It is time for me to order my daughter's highschool diploma! :D I can't believe it. Where has the time gone? She is my first to graduate. We never really gave much thought to naming our homeschool. Now that I need something to put on a diploma, I wish we had picked something out already. I'v...

Re: Beginning high school Science plans....
HOD is written to be a college prep program. If you are certain your son is not college bound, you have freedom to arrange his curriculum according to his individual goals. Perhaps you could consider using EE Advanced for 1 credit of Physical Science as the publisher suggests. This is what I will be...

Re: Anyone Have Challenges With A Book of Discovery?
@ LynnH, Thanks for your response. I am relieved to know WH will have a better flow. I believe the reading challenges we encounter will be good for both of my dc, I just need to accept that it will be accompanied with a little complaining (as most difficult things are ). I would like to share...

Anyone Have Challenges With A Book of Discovery?
My dd is working through the WG guide this year. She has enjoyed most everything within the program with the exception of A Book of Discovery and The Sign Above the Door . With A Book of Discovery being one of the main resources used this year, it has been a constant, "fly in the ointment", so to sp...

My daughter is using WG as well. We are using Living Library. I asked her how she would respond to your post since she is the one actually doing the program. This gives you a view from the students perspective. Her take is that when she first started, it took 6-8 hours a day depending on the days as...

Re: A Plea for Help from You Wise Ladies!
Your post really tugs at my heart because I have a very similar story. My children went to public school until my oldest asked to be homeschooled in the 6th grade. I had to deal with comments from my family like “you are going to make them stupid”, and “you need to put those kids back in school wher...

Re: Older Mommy Brain
Hi Karlyn, I can totally relate. I turned 40 last year, and while I have never had an excellent memory, I am definitely beginning to notice some less than welcome "senior" moments...lol  I have also noticed my energy waning. I just don't have the endless energy or laser-sharp focus I used to ...

Re: Schedule for Videotext in MTMM?
My kids have recently started Videotext as well. It has a very simple plan so you wouldn't need any other lesson plan to follow their program. It is something like this...Watch the video, work the odd problems. Before doing the next day's lesson, your child will take a short quiz on the previous day...
