Re: Can a gifted 12 year old handle WG
My oldest started WG at 13. I will say the workload is a lot! I don't think it is necessarily going to be too difficult, except maybe logic and/or literature. Devotional probably would not necessarily be appropriate either for a 12. So I definely wouldn't expect the full guide at full speed at 12.

Re: Revival to Revolution: Exploration Education-Need clarificaiton
I have one in Rev2Rev and one in WG currently. In WG, they get physical science again. Carrie still does not focus on memorization, but they do have a lot of written work as well as labs in the integrated physics and chemistry course. My kids do complete the vocabulary and review quizzes for EE, but...

Re: Online Planners vs Paper Planners
For my daughter currently in WG, I have a checklist we use for each unit. It is actually one page for all four kids. The boxes are big enough that I can jot down anything that is a real grade (much is just marked completed). I will then use the information from the introduction to assign a course gr...

Re: Help with scheduling
My kids only do 4-5 genres of the workbook a year. But I have them read the other books as free reads over breaks. So it takes 2 years to do a workbook, but they do a book pack each year. Since there are only three workbooks, this works well.

Re: Grading
I would grade based off effort/attitude. If they get everything done with a good attitude, then that is an A. If they do things intentionally sloppy or has a slightly bad attitude (whining, for example), then that would earn a B. If it is obvious that they didn't give their best effort or complained...

Re: Getting independent work done
I have found that I can't wait until afternoon to work with my oldest. I do start with my youngest (in LHFHG), but then I rotate through the other three (CtC, RtR, and WG). So the middle two only have 1-2 boxes to do before they meet with me. I do 30 minute chunks with each student, and often at the...

Re: Getting independent work done
First, if you post on the main board, you will likely get more replies. Second, how are you approaching independent work? Have you done Preparing before? With my kids, we start out going slowly, to make sure they understand everything. Then we move to full speed. They know they can ask about instruc...

Re: Preparing Science: Reading too Difficult
I see two possibilities. First, you could record the science texts, and then have them listen to them (and follow along in the book). This will allow him to do the guide basically as written. But, it means taking time to record the science. And it would mean continuing this plan in future guides, un...

Re: High School Social Concerns
I think social concerns due to Covid are real, but they aren't limited to homeschoolers. And as a result, your kids won't be any more affected anymore than kids that attend schools (in liberal areas, with lots of restrictions due to Covid). Luckily your kids are getting some other social experience ...

This is the main board. Most of the guides, if you go to the board for that guide, you will find a set up post. It is really easy to find them that way!

Re: Placement for my 13yo (7th grade) struggling reader/speller
Audiobooks might be a good option, of it is only reading/spelling that is keeping him back. Some books you can find as audio books, but many sadly aren't available. BUT, you could record yourself reading the books and then have him listen to them doing the guide basically as written. I did this for ...

Re: High School Science
IPC is a standard 9th grade course in some states. Some states list physical science as the standard 9th grade course. And in some states, neither IPC not physical science is taken by many students. IPC and physical science are very similar courses, and colleges will accept them interchangably. If y...

Re: Calculator for Algebra 1
I haven't used Foersters, but what I know if it, a graphing calculator would not be necessary. The book was originally printed long before graphing calculator. I do highly recommend getting a two line display scientific calculator, if you don't have one already. My personal favorite is the TI 30x ii...

Re: LHTH
I think you can make it work. If the program is at least 33 weeks a year, the 4yo class would be pretty easy. You would do two days of the guide the first two days of the week (with a break in the middle, assuming class is more than an hour), and then on the third day, do the last day and whatever e...
