Re: Bible Dictionary?

Thank you for these recommendations. My son has asked for a Bible Dictionary and I have no idea which one to get. My son only wants to use the KJV of the Bible. (I prefer NIV or NKJV, but he only wants KJV) Are the ones recommended here (Student Bible Dictionary by Godwin and Dockery and Internation...

Week in Review 5/31 - 6/04

I wanted to post a "praise report" here. My 9 yo dd daughter completed reading the Early Reader's Bible!!! We are new to HOD. She started on the Emerging Readers List at the beginning of May, with the Early Reader's Bible. She read it to me each night before bed. She liked it so much, she would some...

Re: Dissapointed with history book...???

ok, I'm replying to my own post. I just talked to a friend who used This Country of Ours and said she didn't like it at all. She said it was very dry, boring, and contained many graphic parts. I didn't get specifics.

I think Carrie has made some good choices in Bigger. Just my .02.

Re: Dissapointed with history book...???

DHT1999, That was a very good post, very helpful. I personally have no problem with the Eggelson book or the CLP book that is in the extension pkg. But, wanted to ask you, in your research of searching for a replacement, did you consider This Country of Ours by H.E. Marshall? I've not read it, but i...

Re: Any Orthodox, Catholics or non-Protestants using HOD?

This is a great discussion. I am protestant, but would like to present the reformation in a fair way, so I am really interested in learning more here.

Re: Dissapointed with history book...???

I have a Christian friend, in my local homeschool moms group, who I consider as one "older and wiser". She is in her mid 50's, has 7 children, 3 currently at home- jr. high and high school age. She has homeschooled all of them with CM methods and "better late than early" philosophy. She has told me ...

Re: Beyond and Math Question

Hi, I went through Saxon 1 and 2 with one of mine, now 11yo. You will find that the beginning of Saxon2 is a review of the end of Saxon 1, and much of Saxon 1 is repeated, so you should be fine just going on to Saxon 2 when you finish Saxon 1, especially if he has understood everything in Saxon 1.

Thanks for posting! It is very helpful to see what others are doing. I like how you did it as a "routine" and didn't have specific times.

Re: O/T Neighborhood kids

On one occasion they came down to play, and without even discussing it with me their mother left to go grocery shopping. This, coupled with their bad behavior, would cause me to not allow them to come play anymore. Something could happen while the she was at the grocery store, and you would have no...

Re: ideas for a child with auditory processing issues

I just wanted to encourage the use of audio books as a tool for improving his auditory processing problem. My daughter is now 9 1/2. About 2 years ago, I was told by her speech therapist that she suspected auditory processing problems. I began to notice at home she didn't seem to understand alot of ...

Re: Preparing and A Child's History of the World

Beth, I have not gone through the Preparing program yet, but I wanted to go ahead and send you this info. I'm sure others who have actually been completely through Preparing will give you more complete info on the program. Others have posted concerns about the same thing. You are so wise to be on th...

Re: Has anyone comb/spiral bound the Guides?

Just this week, I had the spine cut off my HOD guides at a copy shop. I had 3 guides done and it cost me about $5 for all 3. I have a hole punch at home, so I brought them home and 3 hole punched them. Then, I put them in 3 ring binders. The binders have the clear plastic sleeve on front and back an...

Re: "How To" Narration

I wanted to add this. In the Bigger Hearts For His Glory, in the Appendix, there is an excellent explanation about oral narration. In the guide for Preparing Hearts For His Glory, there is the same explanation about oral narration, and in addition, an explanation about written narration. I don't kno...

Re: "How To" Narration

One of the main differences between a narration and a summary is that a narration is when the person is relating not only the facts, but also, their inferences, opinions, and feelings about the material, ie, how the person formed a "relationship" with the material. If you go to a search engine, sear...
