Re: OT: Dyslexia and NOT using OG method
Motherjoy, Two of my eight kids are dyslexic (my 15yo ds is moderate, and my 8yo dd is profoundly dyslexic)... just thought I'd pop in and share some of what we've learned along the way. Barton is not the only way. Hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes here, but I find it to be expensive, time cons...

This is simply brilliant.momtofive wrote:One little tip that I thought might be helpful to share. . . . .when printing out the timeline figures for the Book of Centuries, I printed them onto some sticky-back, sticker-type computer paper.
And I am totally doing this next time around.

I know of no other company that provides such hand-tailored, highly specific, guidance! I feel like I am part of a big, loving family, here! :) Me too! This is such a great thread! I'm loving reading through all the posts. *ETA, the thread on marking up the guidebooks is hilarious. A good laugh at ...

Re: dyslexia and HOD high school
Hi Julie, Oh my goodness, yes! Yes, this homeschooling life is crazy busy. And yes, it tends to be lonely. It's funny that you mentioned that because over the last couple of days, since the noise of Christmas gatherings and events has begun dying down, and we are settling in for the long winter/spri...

Re: dyslexia and HOD high school
As far as narrating, I think I'd try to read the first page to him yourself and then briefly orally narrate it yourself to get him on the right track and to model narrating. Then, I'd have him silently read the next page or 2 pages (depending on how much he'd retain well) and then right way after r...

Using a tape recorder is a great idea! I'll remember that for when my son takes driver's ed in a few months... I think that will help a lot. Thank you!

Thank you both for taking the time to reply and helping me think this through. I really appreciate it. Jennymommy, I love your idea about ASL. He is doing well with foreign language right now, but I'm going to tuck that idea away and possibly revisit it in the future. The idea of having something mo...

dyslexia and HOD high school
Good morning, ladies. :) Can we talk a bit about accommodations for dyslexia at the high school level? Are there other moms on the board who are using HOD for high school kids who struggle with dyslexia? For a bit of background, I currently have two kids in high school and one of them is dyslexic. H...

Re: LHFHG Burgess Books Substitution?
I agree with Daneale, I don't think the focus of Reddy Fox is trickery but rather what happens when an enemy is down. Reddy Fox gets hurt, and in the book it is clear that the reason why he gets hurt is his own arrogance. A lot of the rest of the book is about how other creatures in the forest respo...
