Re: As if needed, ANOTHER reason to love HOD!

Tawny, go to hslda.org. (homeschool legal defense). I'm sure you can find information on the dangers of Common Core on their website. Laura - I have said often that one of the most important reasons I use HOD is because of what is being taught form the Bible. If our kids are going to be strong enoug...

Re: OT: Dyslexia and NOT using OG method

There can be eye tracking issues and not dyslexia. It wouldn't hurt to have his eyes checked for that. My daughter had visual problems from strabismus. She had surgery to align her eyes, which helped a good deal with the tracking. But, she also has dyslexia, which still causes issues with her readin...

Re: List benefits of using HOD in High School

Lynn - Angie may only make it through the M to MM by the time she graduates, but I can honestly say, the thought of high school will give me the jitters if I dwell on it. I think we can get through a few guides without too much struggle, but when I look ahead, it scares me a little. When I see the s...

Re: When to begin DITHOR w/ dyslexic child

Thanks for the recommendations, Daneale. It has helped to solidify my decision. :D The book list sounds like a good idea. I don't know how Carrie finds such good books. I like to follow her suggestions for the most part. I would be totally overwhelmed trying to decide what books to use if I had to c...

Re: When to begin DITHOR w/ dyslexic child

Daneale - What book list are you referring to? I'm not familiar with that.

I looked at the samples for 2/3 and 4/5 and it will be a hard choice. I wish I could see more pages in each book.

Re: When to begin DITHOR w/ dyslexic child

Daneale - I was looking at the book packs and the 2/3 sample online and I think that would probably be the best option. I'm assuming the activities for 2 and 3 are the same, just different level of reading. Is that right? I'm going to look at some of the books from the two levels at the library. I w...

Re: When to begin DITHOR w/ dyslexic child

Mumkins-Thanks. I just want to make sure I have Angie on the right track with her reading. I am so happy as to how much her reading has improved, but I still need to follow along with her. The same with her writing.

Re: When to begin DITHOR w/ dyslexic child

Bumping up. I really need some guidance in this area. Is DITHOR meant for a child who is not working/reading independently?

When to begin DITHOR w/ dyslexic child

My daughter is finishing ER books. Her reading has improved, but she is not reading much independently. How do I know if she is ready for DITHOR? I saw that there are independent activities in it. I pretty much have to sit with her during writing activities as well as reading. I have some other book...

Re: Preparing and Beyond Begin Tomorrow -- any tips?!?

Since your daughter's age is on the lower end of Preparing, you could start out half speed for a while, until she adjusts or if you feel it's a lot for one day. Let her do it at a speed that she can really absorb it. Preparing is an excellent guide. We did a little bit of it over a year ago, then st...

Re: Carrie: Coming to TX again?

We were blessed to be able to meet Carrie and Julie a few years ago at the CHAP convention in Harrisburg, PA. I hope some time it will work out again. Since that won't happen this year, I'm thankful I don't need to go to look for curriculum. :D When we finish Bigger, we're onto Preparing. I am now r...

Re: Turn of events:(

Thanks Daneale and Tammy. We attended a funeral yesterday, of a man who attended our church. The other night the devotional I read to Angie was on death, comparing it to the empty shell of a chrysalis. So the past couple of days have offered discussions on death. Angie has always been very sensitive...

Daneale - I wrote this right before I read your last post, but I decided to send it anyway. Taking the day off is a wise choice. :) (Sorry for mistakes. I'm operating from my Kindle because my computer is down) Sorry to hear about all your struggles. You are so quick to offer encouragement to others...

Turn of events:(

I had shared in an earlier thread that my daughter was getting a parakeet. We had it since Friday evening and we were having a lot of fun with it. It was a young one raised locally by someone very credible. It was eating from our hands and sitting on our shoulders and really imprinting on us. This m...

Re: Reading Struggles and the ER's

mommybelle - I think what you are doing is a good plan. Angie does a lot of the same things with words as your daughter. If it is dyslexia, AAS is as good a phonics program as Barton, now that I know what each is like. It's good you picked up on this early and have had consistency in teaching phonic...
