Re: TICONGEROGA Pencils!!

We love them too! Isn't it funny the little things that make homeschooling life much more pleasant?? I not only love they way they sharpen and write, my favorite part is the ERASERS! I can't stand pencils that smear or crumble instead of erasing! I never did a mathematical calculation, but I'm prett...

Re: CtoC days- there is a lot to it! :-)

It does sound like you're busy, but that it is a good kind of busy! This post gives estimates of how much time each subject should take and I found it very helpful: http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3765 I am doing CTC with just one child and my others are older (although that ...

Re: research...

We found great information from World Book Online for Kids through our library website. You could listen to King Tut's horn being played, hear audio of an interview with the discoverer of the tomb, a related link had a video of the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Karnak. Much of the research w...

Re: research...

Check with your local library. In my area, because we have a library card number, we can access lots of online encyclopedias from home--for free! That is what we have been using for research.

RTR Science Questions

Can anyone give me ideas about what types of science experiments/projects are included in RTR? I'm especially (or in reality my son is) wondering if there is any study of volcanoes and any projects or experiments related to volcanoes. He's watched his older siblings do volcano projects and I didn't ...

Air Dry Clay--what am I doing wrong? (CTC)

Ok, with our first air-dry clay project our clay was very wet--I added lots more flour and eventually got it workable. Today we did the toothpaste/cornstarch/glue/water mix and it was slimy wet! I had to add LOTS more cornstarch than the recipe called for in order to get it to a consistency we could...

CTC Creation Chart

Unit 5, day 3, Bible Study, had an assignment to begin making a creation chart but to only do days 1-3 stating that days 4-6 would be assigned in Unit 6, Day 1. I'm not seeing that assignment--other things are assigned for Bible Study on that day. Obviously we can just finish the chart in addition t...

Re: Let's share our schedules!

This is our schedule for CTC with my 10yob. We've been able to get everything done by 1:00 with just a couple of exceptions. He is very excited to accomplish so much and yet be done by 1:00! I actually thought of pushing lunch back to 12:30 so we could say we are done by lunch :-) but 12:00 works be...

CTC: We've completed 3 units!

This is our first time using HOD. My 10yob is doing CTC. So far...it is going very well! I'm still working with him some on the "I" boxes for two reasons: 1)We're new to HOD so I am guiding him along in getting used to the directions, the activities, etc. and 2)I'm enjoying it and have the time to d...
