Re: dyslexia and HOD high school

Laura, I would love to know the name of the program if you find it. I have 2 dyslexics, so my reading out loud time can become quite lengthy. A program like that could save my voice and some time.

Re: Do you wonder if covering Shakespeare is important?

That's wonderful! I bet you were doing a happy dance!
I was debating about ordering the Shakespeare items, but now I think I will. My DD is also dyslexic, so we will read them together.

Re: Why don't all guides use Apologia??

As someone who is trying to get through the Swimming Creatures book with a young guy, I can say it's not what I would normally use for that age group. Some of the readings are interesting and can keep his attention, but most days are tough for him. Our co-op has it scheduled to cover one chapter ove...

Re: WWYD with these ages...

I haven't used those guides yet so I can't say for sure- but I'd keep the older two together and put them both in CTC. From what I've read here, there is a significant jump in skills between the guides as you go. If your oldest can be a reluctant learner, I'd be hesitant to skip a guide unless you ...

Re: Am I the Only One Who Has.....

I somehow stumbled across this thread when searching for a topic, but I had to stop and reassure the original poster that we too mark up or manuals. One year, due to medical reasons, I had DH, MIL and myself using the manual at times. That manual looks terrible because I wrote extra things in for th...

Re: curriculum choices

Welcome to HOD. It sounds like you have figured out where the kids place best on the chart. If that's the case, honestly, it's going to be the easiest way to have them even if it means 3 guides. I used to try to combine my little guy with his sister, but it felt like I was always working to modify t...

Re: "Not to be missed" read alouds from Beyond?

Our favorites were: Key to the Treasure (we bought the rest of the series) Cricket in Times Square Mr. Poppers Penguins Helen Keller (my DD asked to read this again on her own when we were done) In Grandmas Attic (we bought the rest of the series) The Twenty-One Balloons (we've read this 3 times alr...

Re: ORDERED :)

Looks like your ready for awhile. The great thing is you'll have a big box day (and soon since they ship so fast). The problem will be waiting to use the Beyond resources while you are enjoying the other programs.

Thanks for sharing! I'm not crafty or artsy, so this is a huge help in teaching me how to teach this to my daughter.

Re: Am I the only one (Little House books)

I too had a hard time with the books being different from the shows. In my head I will always see the characters as they were on the show rather than how the books describe them.

I would agree not to start Little Hands to Heaven until at least 3 years old. My kids enjoyed using it at age 4.

Re: Carrie or anybody: When did you work in a state study?

In the PA law, I thought it said that you had to do US and PA history. I did not take that to be a full state study unless I'm missing something. We normally hit at least one historical site each year as a field trip which has always fulfilled our requirements. Last year we spent 2 days in Old Phila...
