Obedience- How to teach and nurture this in your children

I am coming to the board today with some questions. I have three children and have been a mother for almost 10 years. However, I find out every day that there are still so many things I do not know! We recently moved to New york. We are enjoying our time here, but we know no one, have no family even...

Reluctant reader

I think it depends on each child. Some are ready at an early age, and others are "late bloomers". I have one of each. My oldest son, now 9, was reading very well in Kindergarten. He loved to read, had always had a high interest in letters and words, and had a great grasp on the pronunciation of word...

How much time does DITHOR add to the school day?

I am thinking of adding DITHOR for my 3rd and 5th graders next year. How much time does that add to the school day? And what kind of schedule do you use with it?

Independence

Isn't it funny how the older ones just sort of take off? It's great to see, yet a little sad too. They grow up to soon! My son often uses our teacher's guide-he's not doing a Heart of Dakota curriculum this year- to find his assignments for the day. I am thinking I may just write up his assignments ...

Read Alouds

I like the read alouds to go along with the History lesson. My kids notice when something comes up that we've mentioned in another area of study. They thinki it's cool to relate the two, and they also remember it more easily. We choose books from the library that we like to read aloud at night that ...

Any suggestions for using curriculums for 8, 10, and 5y/olds

I am currently using the BLHFHG reading schedule for my 7 yo daughter. We used the full curriculum last year, and are using it to supplement in history this year since we didn't finish that part last year. I also have a 9 yo son and a 4 yo son. I plan to start my 4 yo in K next year. Does anyone hav...

Introduction

I'm Wendy. I grew up in Alabama, moved to Florida for 8 years (minus 2 months in Va for husband's field assignment), and now we are into our second month in New York. Talk about a change for this southern girl! It's beautiful here, and everyone is very nice. We are looking forward to fall and winter...

Schedule

We always did Language Arts followed by Math. My reason for this was that I thought these were the most important academically and what the state would want to know was being done should they check. We would then do our Bible, Read Aloud, Art, Science, etc. You can really do it in any order. I alway...

Reading Made Easy

We used Reading Made Easy last year wih my daughter. She knew all of the alphabet and could read some 3-letter words but was still having trouble with some of the vowel sounds. She has a vision problem and that had affected her learning before we corrected her vision. We loved the curriculum. We sta...

A wonderful curriculum!

I used Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory last year with my daughter, who would have been in first grade in public school. I love what it did for her! She was having difficulty reading in Kindergarten, due to an undiagnosed vision problem. We took her to the eye doctor, got her some glasses, and beg...
