Re: HOD Highschool Questions?
I don't have any experience using the HOD guides for high school. I just wanted to say 'thank you' for asking these questions ... Do the plans leave you time for and personal goals (for example, my oldest wants to do some computer science as an elective in HS; is that possible with HOD HS)? The 140 ...

Re: Apologia Astronomy 2nd Edition RtR
I found this description under 'corresponding packages' link for Resurrection to Reformation. It sounds like it would be fine to use the 2nd ed. although I'm thinking page numbers might not match up. ? "Description: The year of earth science for Resurrection to Reformation begins with a focus on ast...

Re: Spelling Woes
I don't have any great insight or help for you, but my inclination would be to give dictation a try, using it consistently several days a week if not all 5 & not worry about how 'behind' he is. You are seeing he's making progress and that is what counts :). Does color help him? Maybe use some colore...

Spanish question
hi, my boys used Getting Started with Spanish this past year. We were able to use it without purchasing the hod guide. However, we want to continue with the next resource that HOD uses in the World History guide to continue Spanish. I know this resource can be used without the HOD guide, but what wo...

Re: hobgoblins?
But they are no different than other characters in stories - like Larry the Cucumber or Winnie the Pooh. They aren't real but some times it is fun to tell fantasy stories. This is a bit off topic but..... You guys need to check out this, http://www.amazon.com/Winnie-Story-Inspired-Winnie-Pooh/dp/08...

Re: ADHD Help- Preparing AGAIN
I thought the same thing Melissa. But when I posted about this issue the first time, Carrie and others said not to do that. I don't really know why. To me, it seems that frequent stops and "checking in" with him would help. I say this carefully, tho it may not come across like I want it too, and fr...

Re: General topic: Homeschooling & Moving,
Thanks!! And see, here's the thing, if I start packing, the boxes will have to be sitting somewhere here in the house. I don't have a basement or a garage and no extra closet space. If I go ahead and start packing then there's all these boxes sitting around, making me feel chaotic, which makes it ha...

Re: General topic: Homeschooling & Moving,
Ok, just to be upfront and clear, we are NOT using HOD this year with any of our children. Ok, i said this only because I didn't want someone to misunderstand and think we were using HOD. We have in the past, but this year we were led in a different direction. Have you ever moved in the middle of a...

General topic: Homeschooling & Moving,
Ok, just to be upfront and clear, we are NOT using HOD this year with any of our children. But has anyone ever moved in the middle of the school year? My parents live 1100 mi away and are facing physical troubles. My mom is right now in the hospital. She has various health issues. We feel it might b...

Re: Using HOD in difficult circumstances
It's my understanding that board moderators want to stick as close as possible to doing the guides exactly as written so any deviations from that or any advise to do differently are discouraged on this board. I was made aware these types of questions are on the facebook site. I do not have facebook ...

Using HOD in difficult circumstances
I didn't really know how to title this, or even how to present it, but it's been in my mind for quite some time. I know there have been moms/families who use HOD or have used HOD during long term sicknesses & difficult situations. I was wishing that there could be a place just for such topics, off t...

Re: Getting Started With Spanish
Thank you, Carrie! Since I posted, my boys came up with this system that seems to be working well for them at this point. Just thought I'd share In case others might find it helpful. They read the lesson from the book( they each have a book) first, then listen to the pronunciations,( they spend some...
