Re: Former dropout thinking about coming back to HOD

Thank you Rice and StephanieU! I do think my son fits best into the Preparing guide. It would definitely help to mentally hold him back a grade. :D I never thought of that before! He does not seem quite ready to be a 6th grader. Thanks for that suggestion! I'm technically holding my other ds back si...

Former dropout thinking about coming back to HOD

Hello everyone! We have used HOD in the past. I started my oldest with LHFHG, we moved to Beyond, and then started Bigger. I don't think we finished any of the guides. We started Bigger for his fourth grade year (2015-2016) and once again, got so behind and ended up never getting past week 10 or so....

Re: Thanksgiving!

Great idea! I share with you in all you wrote above. I am also thankful for our free country that allows us to homeschool. Today I am thankful for the beauty of the fall leaves and skies. I am thankful for the creativity of my kids. I am thankful for how quick they are to forgive me and move on when...

Re: Discouraged - I have the bad attitude!

Its funny, I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering how you schedule your days with so many little ones. Our families are very similar in ages and season. My baby is now 2.5 months old and it has been a HUGE learning curve. I find myself on the very edge of depression some days with all...

Re: my perfectionist balks at drawing in BIGGER

Thank you everyone! I lost my first reply...i will try to recap. I tried your suggestions and we had a very successful science notebooking time yesterday. Thank you! I was able to explain to him that it doesn't have to be perfect, but the goal is to help him remember what he's been studying. Looking...

my perfectionist balks at drawing in BIGGER

My son (9yo) usually enjoys drawing, but has had such a hard time copying the pictures for his science and history notebooks. Yesterday he produced streams of tears over a map he was supposed to copy for his notebook! He says he is afraid of doing it wrong, not copying it well enough. This perfectio...

Re: Struggling with The Reading Lesson

Hi! Glad you had a good reading day with your kiddo. I have taken my first two kids through TRL. One caught on to reading faster than the other, but both hit a wall with TRL where we just weren't making good progress and they weren't loving it. I used chocolate chips as motivation to finish lines/pa...

Re: Today was ROUGH!!!!!

Thank you for this post! Without having time to go into all the details, (or our lunch will burn while I type :( ) our day has started out rough too. Bad attitudes and selfishness. My baby is due in 1 week, so I am trying to be diligent to get our school work done before the upcoming break. So...

Re: First Day of School!!!!

Have fun ladies! And don't worry about taking it slow to begin with. We just finished our first week (starting our third year with HOD) and did a nice and easy half speed pace and it was perfect. Enjoy having all the work planned for you!

Re: Think I need to separate my oldest 2?

I split my 7yo and 9yo up this year for similar reasons. They did Beyond together last year. The younger seemed to lose focus and not enjoy the readings as much as my oldest, especially as my oldest is so good at narrating. It was discouraging to watch her disengage, partly due to having their skill...

Re: Let's share our schedules!

So here is our current (on paper) 2015 schedule for running LHTH with my 4 yo, partial Beyond with my 7yo (she is taking a slow semester before starting Bigger after Christmas), and Bigger with my 9yo. A couple of notes about the schedule: 1. I am shifting to a 4-day school week this year. My oldest...

Re: Introverted personality & HOD..

This is an interesting thread. I actually spent a lot of time this summer googling "introverted homeschool mom". I was feeling very similar to you. I have a baby due in a month and three children who just plain need lots of time! There are quite a few bloggers who are introverted homeschool moms and...

Re: Getting Ready to Start up again

This is a fun thread to read through! We are going to start next Monday, Aug 3rd! I have a baby due Aug 31st, so I am hoping we can get 4 good weeks of school (probably not units!) in before baby gets here so that after we take some time off for baby in September, it will be easier to jump back into...

Re: New to homeschooling, seriously considering HOD

lots of mammas are helpful with placement questions! You can keep asking questions on this thread, or start a new one with a new subject. If you can give as many specifics for the levels your children are in math, reading, writing, grammar, etc., it will help everyone help you!

Re: New to homeschooling, seriously considering HOD

mjlamarche-- Glad you are here asking questions! Your criteria: 1. Christ-centered - all in one - no switching from book to book to book all over the place to cover all subjects. 2. Multiple children at home (ages 5, 7, and 9, entering K, 2 and 4) 3. Easy for me and no planning work. 4. Easy to foll...
