Re: Covering geography - map work

I edited my post above. I didn't notice before that you mentioned him placing in Beyond on the chart. If he places in Beyond in the areas of age, reading, and writing then that is where you should start.

I hope that helps. The testing too really will be fine! :D

Re: Covering geography - map work

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. This is the last little piece I need to figure out, mainly because I am concerned about the testing. I will take time to think over and pray about what you've said. Your comments bring me back to my initial question on this board about placement. It seem...

Re: Junior / Senior High Questions..long...would love some h

Thank you for the encouragement Little Women! :D I read your post last night and was so encouraged by it. Your comparison of the two curriculums was very helpful for me. I would say HOD is the most rigorous I have found as well, and the most of what I have wanted. These threads are helping me so muc...

Re: HOD High School is a HUGE help!

But I want to assure those reading that we serve an Awesome God! He enables those He has called to finish what He has called them to do. He gives the tools and the strength. His Holy Spirit is able to keep us from falling. Psalm 18 says, "He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on...

Re: Covering geography - map work

Creation to Christ is later elementary (4th / 5th approximately) and has an entire book on Geography. The assignments on the Holy Land and the Middle East are fairly detailed in the places they find and the places described in the book. Carrie in the guide has them label maps (Turkey, Israel, Egypt,...

Re: HOD High School is a HUGE help!

There was something about the transition from elementary/middle school homeschooling to high school that really made me question my ability to finish the work God had called us to do in homeschooling our sons. I began to worry that I really was not qualified to decipher and maneuver through all the...

Re: Junior / Senior High Questions..long...would love some h

There was a great thread entitled "List Benefits of using HOD in High School" started by LynnH on Feb 5, 2015. I don't know how to add the link, but it would be worth the time to do a search and read through the posts. Maybe someone who knows how could add it to this thread. It's a highly encouragi...

Re: Junior / Senior High Questions..long...would love some h

This has been a long response, but hopefully it helps as you think things through. As far as not giving in to the whining I would ask God to help you with that. To teach our children that their whining and complaining won't get them what they want or get them our of hard work is probably one of the...

Re: More questions from the newbie!

Thank you! We are actually in TRL now also and Bob books, etc. I am trying to figure out our next step because there's a curriculum fair in a few weeks and I'd like to have an idea what to look for there :) For me, going into sale with a plan is must or else I'll get a bunch of stuff that doesn't f...

Re: More questions from the newbie!

If you look at the phonics box on the LHFHG sample you will see it list the two phonics learning to read program options or your own phonics program. Instead of using your own phonics program you could use the ERs from Beyond, and then you would need the Beyond guide for the schedule and questions i...

Re: ? on placement our son has 5 years to graduation

I am bumping you up since placing him is beyond my oldest in 6th grade.

I would though suggest not putting too much emphasis on literary study since doing DITHOR for one year in 8th would pull him up quite a bit in that area.

I know your input will help these more experience ladies help you. :D

Re: Schedule for emerging readers

I Loved the emerging readers in the back of Beyond. They launched two of my children into being able to read nearly anything up through 6th grade material. They made reading fully click for both of them. The schedule is page numbers and questions. The books increase in difficulty throughout the year...
