Re: HOD Highschool Questions?

Thank you so much kidsforHim for bumping me up! :D I don't mind you following this at all, and I hope it is helping you as much as it has helped me! :) Thank you LynnH for your post. It helped much to read through your experience with HOD. I have been looking at your blog and Julie's posts on week-i...

HOD Highschool Questions?

(Edited Sunday 6/25/17 after more research & prayer) I am currently planning for next year, and I am praying much for the LORD's leading in an 8th - 12th plan for my oldest. I am also praying over plans for my up-coming 6th and 5th graders. Through this process my husband and I both find ourselves b...

Re: Spelling Woes

He sounds a lot like my ds13. Similar to you I think we have used multiple approaches to spelling. The one I find that has the most impact and works the best for him is dictation. He remembers spelling when it is in context. I remember early on someone telling me that a great reader didn't necessari...

Re: Extensions

I thought this might help too. It seems more age based rather than grade based:

Re: Extensions

I agree with daybreak. Perhaps, the guide is implying age 12 is 6th and 13 7th? It seems possible to me. Where I live the new cut off in many school districts is June 15th. This means from June 16th - June 15th the following year 6th graders are turning 12 before the September start and after. Thus,...

Re: Extensions

In the catalogue under CTC extension package it says: "Due to the more mature content of the books within the ancient time period - both in the violence that was prevalent during this period and the depravity of the worship of pagan gods - this extension package is best suited for mature 6th and 7th...

Re: Foerster's Algebra 1 versus VideoText Algebra

Thank you Ladies! Your comparisons were very helpful. He is strong in math and it helped to hear the differences. I saw a recommendation for Video Text early on and thought we might go that direction. After reading your descriptions I think it wouldn't be a good fit.

Thank you! :D

Foerster's Algebra 1 versus VideoText Algebra

I was wondering what you think of Foerster's Algebra?

It seems like Carrie is recommending Foerster more than VideoText; is this correct?

What has been your experience with either of these Algebra programs?

Thank you!

Re: What age to start school?

I am on the opposite spectrum of thought. I thought age 6 was the youngest children should start school. My oldest started figuring out reading at age 3, and I still waited until age 6. He is a July Birthday so we started K shortly after his 6th Birthday. I have never regretted that decision. At the...

Re: CTC-The Story of the Ancient World question

I did what you did which was explain that we should always hold up everything we read to Scripture.

In CTC Christine Miller is used for the first 18 weeks, then the spine switches to Greece and Rome, and during the last weeks of the program the spine is the NT.

Re: Placement Help - Bigger

His grammar could start R&S 3. He turns 9 in August; correct? So he would be in the middle age range of Preparing. It sounds like he could benefit from the longer copywork and more focused written narrations of Preparing. I wouldn't worry about grades. Honestly, he sounds like Preparing would be a g...

Re: Placement Help - Bigger

Given how young he is, if I had to assign a grade level, especially for a boy who doesn't like writing, I would call him "3rd grade." Not that it really matters, as you say, at least not until high school. And it does sound like Bigger Hearts would fit well. You don't want to push him too hard. And...
