Re: History Lives series

I was disappointed to read several years ago that the author abandoned his faith and is no longer a Christian. Perhaps that is why he no longer wants the books stocked. I do know Heart of Dakota still has all of the books in stock, so you could order directly from them.

Re: CTC- what in the world

My personal opinion would be either to embrace HOD fully or move to a different curriculum, as dropping or replacing parts of the history would cause gaps, especially the more you move along, since the Waring CD's are used for several years. The reason I say this is, because of the way Carrie has de...

Re: Stories of the Pilgrims: I wish abridged books would indicate they're abridged

I'm looking at the 1912 edition of "Stories of the Pilgrims," available online. From all I've read so far, the one used in Beyond is word for word the same as the 1912 edition. (Also, the foreword of the book used in Beyond does state, "The Pilgrim Stories, as originally written, were read in a numb...

Re: So Blessed to be a Part of the HOD Family

Welcome, Jaime! I'm so glad you found HOD! I pray it will be as much of a blessing to you as it has been to us. We started with Beyond Little Hearts when my son was 8; he is now 19 and will be attending college in the fall. How fast time goes!! I can honestly say I have loved every minute of HOD and...

Re: Help! We’re super behind on BLHFHG!

If she is at the appropriate level in Beyond, I would just keep working week by week until the end of your school year. Then, in the fall, simply pick up where you left off. There is no need to finish a guide by the end of the school year. We absolutely loved doing Beyond in our home school. I would...

Re: Annotation

We aren't in the financial position to purchase a second copy of the books, so we chose not to have our son annotate directly in the books to allow them to be re-used with our younger daughter. I think sticky notes work well, as the child is still interacting with the text and still has notes of his...

A scientific calculator would be fine for Algebra 1. (We didn't start using a graphing calculator until Pre-Calculus.)

Re: Assessment for Kids

We started testing using the CAT-E, but found the results didn't give us much detail. We then switched to the IOWA and found the results to be much more thorough and very helpful. You can see an example of the IOWA test results here: https://www.setontesting.com/wpsetontesting/wp-content/uploads/202...

Re: We hope the board is fixed now!

The board is working fine for me, and some issues I had using the website are all resolved now, except the website is very slow. Whenever I click on a link, I have to wait quite awhile before the new page will load.

Wow!!! I LOVE the new website! I especially enjoyed reading the "About Us" page and seeing all of the pictures of your family. :)

The website is extremely well-done and easy to use. Thank you for all of the hard work that went into designing it!

I can't imagine homescshooling without HOD!!

Re: Several ?'s about Grammar and Placement

Doing a different level of grammar (or even a separate grammar program altogether) would not be a problem, as the plans for R&S English are not connected with the history, science, math, etc. My son has been several years ahead of the guides in English, and it's not been an issue for us. The only ti...

Re: New to HOD

We used our own math for the younger and middle guides, and my son has been several levels ahead in English, so we really haven't followed those parts of the guides, but the using the guides for history/Bible/geography (and electives) has been MORE than worth it, in my opinion. With my son, I had ho...

Re: 2nd Purchase of Teacher's Guide - Discount?

Just a little note to mention that you can reuse the guides for subsequent children, using a different check-off system for each one. For instance, for my son, I put a check in each box when the box was completed. Down the road, when my daughter used the same guide, I put her initial in each complet...

Re: World Geography English 1 vs Fund Lit & Engl/Comp

I'm pretty sure both options are the same; it's just a matter of how you want to list it on your child's transcript. Some prefer to list just one credit of English (which includes both English/Composition & Literature), whereas others prefer to break the two areas apart into two 1/2 credit courses, ...
