Beyond Storytime Books w/Bigger?
I have the storytime books for Beyond that I never ended up using. Could I use them for the Bigger storytime, instead of buying the books that go with Bigger? I'm just trying to save money. Last year I ended up buying 2 curriculums and I never want to make that mistake again....very, very costly! My...

Re: First week of Beyond with pics
Oh my goodness!!! Your homeschool room is such an inspiration. I'm not sure if I'm now wishing for a designated room to be as organized as you or if I could send my son to your house to be homeschooled  ! Thank you so much for sharing. Although my house is too small to have a homeschool room, ...

Re: Dictation success!
This is awesome to hear! I was beginning to get nervous because I used Abeka in the past and their spelling seems to be a lot more difficult. So I thought I'd be cheating my son if the curriculum was too easy. I love reading these successes!

Re: How do you celebrate the first day of school?
We've never celebrated but my friends do. The night before the 1st day, they throw a big dinner party, which the grandparents and any other family are invited to. They make a big cake and the grandparents usually supply lots of fun balloons and a few gifts. They repeat this celebration on the last d...

Re: Praise for Rod & Staff English
I've been so curious about this english program. After reading Julie and Carries response, I have no idea what you mean when you say that you like doing english this way and it's better than a formal english program. The only way I've seen grammar taught is at my local public school. The teacher wou...

Re: confused bigger/beyond decision
I just read Julies post about viewing Carries post on beefing up Beyond for older child. Now I'm wondering if you use half Beyond (for science, geography, history) and then Bigger for english and math, when do you end up using only one guide? This is where my sons at but I'm not sure I want to keep ...

Re: Cursive and Storytime Questions
Hi Patty, I honestly still have my keyboard template that we had to bring home to practice on! It was a big deal when we hit 3rd grade and were able to go to the comptuer lab. Now our kids go to the computer lab in Kindergarten. However, their is a near by science elementary school where I live wher...

Cursive and Storytime Questions
I have 2 questions: 1. My son completed a year of cursive. So from here on out, should I have him complete all his assisgnment in cursive? It seems to me after I learned cursive our school went straight into computer lab and we were given the choice to either write or type our papers but that was fo...

Re: ds6 just finished K5 abeka phonics - what next?
Abekas phonics starts in K and ends at the end of 2nd grade. So if the school gave you your dc Handbook for Reading (which is used from K thru 2nd), it will have all the phonics charts in the back. Use that book and the charts as a review when your daughter is ready for the emerging readers. I reall...

Re: Grammar question in Beyond ...
We just finished Abeka 1 as well and this is the same question I had that Julie helped me with. I already had the Beyond guide so I put a lot of time into researching the grammar (and spelling...Abeka is more advanced in spelling but that's our low point) and found that if we stuck with Beyond we'd ...

Re: Beyond and R&S question
I kept flip flopping between Beyond and Bigger for my 7 1/2 yr old son, who went to ps Kinder when he was 4 1/2 (Dec. 1st baby), then we did our own workbooks for 1st grade and this year we used Abekas 1st grade program because they seemed advanced (even though he's technically in 2nd grade...sorry ...

Re: Thank you Carrie for these kind of moments
There are a lot of days where I feel like my son is missing out on some great educational instructors that he could benefit from by homeschooling. Yet, when I read wonderful posts as these, I feel like it's a reminder from God saying we're fine where we are at!

Re: bdget vs. thrilled w/ HOD
I sent you an email but $1000.00 just seems to high for HOD. I thought most programs were around 300.00 but I'm sure it does depend on what level. I agree with Kathleen and using it with the other kiddos if that is possible. Also, I too have heard of other moms getting the read alouds thru their lib...

Re: Q about using index cards in Bigger and Preparing
I've never heard of an index card binder. Did you find it at an office store? I'm just wondering if it looks like the style of a photo album where you just drop the pics in. I have a problem putting the index cards in a recipe box because it all just gets stuffed in there. Thanks for sharing that id...
