When a child is used to reading through books quickly....

I thought I would try to use DITHOR with my oldest. We have never used it before though I've had it for awhile. We made it to day 3 before he decided to sit down and read the rest of the book in one day (Carry on Mr. Bowditch). I know this *could* be considered an obedience issue.... but I think I l...

Re: ? how to adjust handwriting in BHFHG science

What we have done so far: For writing the Bible Verse on a card - We are in the first week and the Bible verse is 3 verses. I'm having him copy 1 verse each day for three days. For science - like Julie, I already have Preparing so I copied the lab sheet out of the back and he was able to do the writ...

Read most of Boyhood and Beyond last year....

My oldest is doing RTR, but he's ~2/3 through Boyhood and Beyond because I had him reading it last year. I know he *could* re-read it, but I was also considering just having him pick it up from where he is and then finding something else to use the rest of the year? We might be inclined to re-read i...

Re: Good first day of school- Thanks

Shannon, I am so sorry for your loss. I've had miscarriages, but never so late in the pregnancy as 20 weeks. I cannot imagine your grief. I pray God's comfort in your "mommy heart." I'm so glad your first day was a blessing. I hope each day of peace and joy brings more comfort. I do not have the gri...

Re: Any ideas about Labor Day and not losing a day?

Thanks Misty. I thought about doubling up, but our day is pretty full.... I'm not sure I could do it. I did read the other thread "missed a day... don't want to skip anything..." and that was really helpful and comforting about being off. I forgot my LHFHG kiddos will get off anyway because my 5yo w...

Any ideas about Labor Day and not losing a day?

For those of us in guides with 5 days/week... are you planning to do school on Labor Day? I know one of the great things about HOD is that it's okay to get "off" a day, but I was hoping not to get "off" so soon. Any suggestions about how to handle the week of Labor Day?

Thanks!

Re: Excited about placement...

Good for you! I am hoping I'll be able to echo your post in a couple weeks. It took a lot of pondering and 2 or 3 threads to come up with our placement. RTR will stretch my oldest. Bigger seems perfect for my 8.5 yo. Like you my 7yo could probably hand Beyond, but it works better to combine her with...

Re: Our RTR/Bigger Hearts/LHTH Schedule for this year

Julie, Thanks for posting it again. I was not able to print from your bigger posting... but I went back to the original one, clicked on it to enlarge it, then clicked "zoom in" to get it 100%. Then I printed it and it is still a little light, but definitely readable. Maybe that will be helpful to ot...

Re: Our RTR/Bigger Hearts/LHTH Schedule for this year

Julie, Thanks for sharing your schedule - you make it look so easy! I was able to enlarge it and see it better, but I was wondering if there's a way to print it? When I tried to print it, it was light and fuzzy. I supposed I could work on mine while I have yours on screen, but I'm such a paper perso...

Re: Placement help.... starting over :)

Mumkins, Thank you for your thoughts. He and I did look over the catalog together as we discussed. I understand what you mean about combining with kids 3 years apart - that's what I would have been doing with these two oldest. When they're young it's hard because each year brings so many changes in ...

Re: Shamelessly seeking approval for my crazy plan, LOL!

Carrie, Thank you so much for taking time to reply. I ended up starting a new thread to reconsider all placement options and your suggestions are the exact ones I ended up with. THe other thing I considered at Julie's suggestion was pairing the two older ones in Preparing. I loved the idea of having...

Re: Placement help.... starting over :)

Lourdes, thank you for the encouragement! I appreciate it. Julie, Thank you for wading through all my info and thinking through it with me again. I LOVE your suggestion. LHFHG with my 5yo and 7yo feels more do-able than Beyond. I would love to combine the older two in Preparing, but I have thought a...

Placement help.... starting over :)

Okay, I'm still trying to figure out placement and I think I need to start from scratch.... Here's some info about each child... ds 11.5 (turns 12 in Oct), 6th grade, Love to read, even very challenging books - no formal literature study. Can do written narrations - but would rather not, LOL. Has co...

Re: Shamelessly seeking approval for my crazy plan, LOL!

Cyndi, Thanks for your encouragement! I really appreciate it. Thinking about the ease of using a guide that fits well, I searched the board and got time estimates for each box in Bigger and Beyond and made a chart comparing times by box. Then I noted which boxes I already have to do separate (LA, ma...
