Re: 10 yo Handwriting Struggles

Insurance is a bugger, that is for sure. Many don't cover (mine doesn't). I've begun to really wonder what they do cover these days. A few options you could try: I've seen people mention the Scottish Rite Center. If you have one they might do the testing and help with cost (not sure if they would do...

Re: 10 yo Handwriting Struggles

You could try the PS but very specific in asking if they test for dyslexia or other learning disabilities. Where I live I would never have success in getting any help or testing because the schools don't test for dyselxia. The vision, floating words thing is definitely an issue and related to dyslex...

Re: 10 yo Handwriting Struggles

Has your ds been evaluated for dyslexia? I see from your post that he's undergoing visual OT so there could be more to his struggles that need help. What signs are you seeing? Kids that have LDs or even other struggles (like vision) tend to mature later and it takes more time to bring all those skil...

Preparing Guide -- Book Idea

I think I need to switch my current curriculum to the Preparing Guide but would prefer not doing the Life in the Great Ice Age - again (covered in another program). Could I use the Woolly Mammoth book instead?

Re: Which Genre are these books?

Historical fiction - okay. Now to find a few more options for Biography and non-fiction - actually Biography is pretty easy because my dd loves reading about missionaries so there are plenty to work with in that department. Non-fiction - hmmmmm.......will have to look at the other programs and their...

Which Genre are these books?

I'm trying to figure out where these books would fit genre-wise to get a complete reading course together: Twice Freed Cat of Bubastes (I know it is audio but it has to fit somewhere right?) Within the Palace Gates These are the extension books for CTC. Also anyone have a suggestion for a Non Fictio...

Re: Read Alouds and Different Guides

But those books in Preparing are soooo good. I loved Tirzah, and the others look so wonderful! The only one I might wait on is the Raiders one - I have the whole series and his older brother read them all but that one could wait another year or two..... I'm thinking Preparing and moving forward....I...

Re: Read Alouds and Different Guides

After I signed off this morning I was sitting at the table and sharing my pondering thoughts with my two oldest (14 and 17) and their take on this was "you should keep him in Preparing. He needs to be challenged. You think he can't do it but he can. He's going into 6th and needs to step it up." They...

Re: Read Alouds and Different Guides

Thank you all for helping and responding to my pondering issues and questions. I am inclined to keep my one ds in HOD for Preparing because I've seen the progress that he has made both educationally, spiritually and emotionally. I will have to figure out what to do about storytime for next year - an...

Read Alouds and Different Guides

I'm at a crossroads here and trying to understand how to make heads or tails out of using more than one guide and the read-aloud section. My ds is using Bigger (oldest in RTR) and I'm thinking of moving forward with Preparing for him. He is dyslexic so some of the independent boxes will be my respon...

Re: Changes to Our Convention Schedule

Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh - you are coming to Richmond! Really!!!!!!!! AWESOOOOMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEE!~! Now, I've got to make a plan to get there - never been as I prefer to go to the smaller convention in Centreville, VA (which is growing by leaps and bounds). Heidi

Re: Placement help, CTC/RTR/Preparing

I don't get a lot of time to post here that often but I do try to glance over the posts when I can/time allows. I'm so glad that you weren't mad at me for my posts/ideas/thoughts; you just never know what people will think irl. I didn't read your siggy line to see that you have been through the teen...

Re: Placement help, CTC/RTR/Preparing

I am currently using RTR and I have a dd that has reading issues (she is 14) (I also have an 11 year old with reading issues) and this particular has never used HOD before until this year. When we began the year she was assigned all of the independent reading - the history portion for example (which...

Re: A possible high school plan....

Just a note on the Dave Ramsey course - we are using it for my two high schoolers now - it is well worth over .5 a credit - at least .75 of one and if you add the additional unit on giving (they can't sell this portion to PS schools because of the religious aspect) - you could award a full credit - ...

Re: RtR Science Ordering ??s

If you are planning on using the next guide, why not just use something different for this year in place of the science - I currently juggle 3 guides (1 I'm going to have to drop or I'm going to go crazy) and since everything is correlated to the time frame/history I'd be inclined to wait and use wh...
