I'm Coming Back!

I keep playing this song in my head but not sure of the title but I keep hearing "I'm coming back. I'm coming back to you....." Yep, I'm coming back to HOD. My ds who is 9 (soon to be 10) will be using Bigger (we had worked through Beyond and took a different path this year) and my ds who is 6 will ...

Emergent vs Independent Reader and DITHOR Placement

I haven't posted here much lately (unlike last year :( ) but I'm preparing to return to HOD in the fall and will be using Bigger for my 4th grader. He has been a struggling reader but slowly and surely finally progressing. We've been working through the emergent reader books (and then some) but wond...

Re: Trying hard to be nice on other forums when it comes to HOD!

I totally agree. The other day I read some posts on another forum and it ruined my day. I was so upset and disappointed and I was allowing these comments to really overtake my emotions. By the time I had formulated a kind, gentle, "professional" response, someone had so graciously taken care to give...

Re: Singapore Math ??? and Guides

Thank you for clarifying the lessons for Singapore. I've lent out my Beyond guide for the year but have sheepishly asked to have it returned by the end of summer so that I'll be good to go and since I'm buying Bigger for my other ds I'll have all the hands-on stuff for Singapore - yippeeeeeee!!!!! M...

Singapore Math ??? and Guides

I love how the guides provide hands-on lessons for the Singapore Math-this is invaluable to me because I don't have to take the time to think up something ahead of time. I'm currently using BJU Math K for my K child and we'll be working through Little Hearts this fall for 1st grade and I am going to...

Re: You can see the LHTH and LHFHG photobooks online

I would love to see these books and can't wait to the see the Beyond book (personal reasons, of course ;-)! My email is 1shortmomof4@comcast.net Heidi P.S. Gee, I think I need to work on a siggy line because everyone else has fancy stuff here that my post seems somewhat underdressed for the occasion...

Re: I'm Back with HOD

Yes, he did return safe and sound although very tired from a 16 hour plus shift! He has the next 2 days off and then it is back to work and starting on 1/11 he'll be working 12 hour shifts 6 days per week through the Inauguration so we'll just be watching him pass through until January is just about...

Re: I'm Back with HOD

Awww, thanks guys. I'm so excited but mostly relieved - you know how you feel when you are searching for something, not sure what it is, but then when you find it you feel so peaceful - yep, that's me at this point. Can't wait for some of the books to arrive and get started with my youngest. I can o...

Re: Take 5 minutes to help PLEASE!

I've still got many pictures I took from last year's adventure with Beyond that I can review and select 1 or 2 top favorites - but where do I send them?

I'm Back with HOD

Oh my, I have to say that there has been this missing link since I started the kids back to school in September. Something was just not quite right - just a bit off center. I started using Beyond with my then 2nd grade ds and we were having a wonderful time. And the best part was that my youngest, t...

I actually had the spine removed and 3-hole punched. I use a colored divider that I remove each day so I know where I am in the guide. I also used colored dividers to separate out the reading, spelling and other helps in the back of my 3-ring binder. I like being able to open it right up to the page...

I am currently using the first book for my 6th and 8th graders. We do this book on Wednesdays and I started on the first lesson and we read it together and they work through the Start and Intermediate portions of the lesson. I do a few other things for writing/grammar but they are on different days....

Annaz gave you a good start. It is scattered and I did find while we were supposed to be reading about animals from one specific habitat for a set period of time (I want to say 6 weeks), I found that many animals were left out and then later thrown in for good measure farther down the road. I am not...

Which program were you planning on using? I've used a few of WP programs and I may be able to help you make a clearer decision by perhaps giving you a few comparisons or differences between the two. WP is definitely more hands-on but it is not a requirement in order to get the most from the program....

A world of Adventures is a unit study program for kids in grade 4 through 8 so I'm thinking this might not be what you are looking for based on your children's ages alone. While I have no recommendations to offer as I'd feel inadequate in making any but I would suggest that you look over on the plac...
