Re: Need Help Deciding Between Bigger and Preparing
Carrie, thanks for replying. I'm not really new to homeschooling, but have only re-begun if you catch what I mean. I homeschooled my dd (10, will be 5th grade) through 2nd grade then placed her in a classical christian school for 3rd and 4th. My ds (just turned 9, will be 4th) went to that same scho...

Re: Independent History in Preparing
Okay. He is reading through the 2nd Elson Reader and doing well. I'm trying to build his reading confidence back up. We had to pull him from a classical christian school in January because he was stressed and falling behind. He just wasn't ready for the books they were reading, like Misty of Chincot...

Re: Independent History in Preparing
MamaBear, Is your dd a reluctant reader? I'm pretty sure ds will do fine with the writing, so I don't think that will be an issue. Maybe I could really make sure dc are doing a lot of reading this summer and go ahead with Preparing. You never know when he'll decide to take off.... The week-in review...

Re: Independent History in Preparing
Julie, thanks for your very positive post. I'm trying to decide whether or not the independent reading will be too much for my reluctant reader ds (9). I really want to do Preparing, but am wavering between it and Bigger because of his reluctance.
Is the Week-in-review the weekly check in?

Independent History in Preparing
Could someboy please tell me about how many pages/day are assigned for the indepentent history reading in Preparing for books like Noah's Ark, Noah's Flood, The 5000 Year-Old Puzzle, etc.? It's hard to get a feeling of what bite sized chunks really mean from the samples because that first week uses ...

Need Help Deciding Between Bigger and Preparing
I thought I had planned on using Preparing next year with my ds 9 ( will be 4th grade) and dd 10 (will be 5th grade and 11 in October). They really both fit that age range. However ds (9) is a very reluctant reader, and I'm afraid the self study might be too much for him. dd, on the other hand, is r...

Re: Preparing Question
Thanks for the advice. As I was waiting for suggestions, I decided to do the Preparing as is without the extension books. You would be shocked at how bad my library system is, though. It doesn't have one book from the extension pack. The reason dd thinks Beorn the Proud might be too hard, is because...

Preparing Question
Hi All, I am fairly new to HOD. I did use LHFHG with my dd back when it and LHTH were the only guides. Though I loved it, I was forced to move on. Now, my dc have been in a classical christian school for the past two years, and I'm ready to bring them home. While we plan on using Preparing wit...
