Re: Can children work independently?
Hi Terri, It sounds wonderful that your almost 12 year old is doing LHTH with your youngers. What a great plan. If she's a strong reader, you could easily have her do CTC almost completely independently, imo. My dd is doing CTC this year. She isn't doing the science portion, and we do our own math a...

Re: Dictation for Spelling
Carrie, thanks for those links. They were very encouraging. I'm especially encouraged that both you and Julie had the same reservations at the beginning of your journeys into dictation but have seen the fruit of sticking to it. Thank you for letting me know it's a "slow burn" I can't wait to see the...

Re: Do you think HOD could work for this child? Or PS is better?
My dd 5.5 will sometimes have a hard time answering simple questions such as What did Cain do to Abel? When she can't answer, I simply re-read the portion of the passage that has the answer, then she usually gets it . Listening attentively and being able to articulate an answer are learned skills, I...

Re: Dictation for Spelling
Thanks so much Patekake and InHisTiming. I will relax and let the dictation do its job. My dd really does enjoy it, so that's a huge plus.

Dictation for Spelling
Please encourage me that dictation really works for spelling. I'm sooooo skeptical, but I've also pulled my final hair out with dd's horrendous spelling. I've given in and decided to go the dictation route because Carrie is so right on with everything else. Please tell me it works!

Re: Math Essentials
Carrie, thanks for your response. So, would you say my 6th grade dd would be the right age to do the elementary program? Generally, following your lessons, that age would be doing Singapore 6A/6B, right? Then you would suggest math essentials after that. I don't care about flashy at all. I want some...

Re: Math Essentials
The reason I posted this question is because I thought it was the program Carrie used for her oldest son. Otherwise, I wouldn't have posted. For us right now, Singapore is out of the question because my dd is used to a different way of doing math and there would be too large of a learning curve righ...

Math Essentials
This question is for Carrie or anyone who has used Math Essentials. I'm considering this for my dd 11 and am wondering if it can be used as a stand alone math program or only as a supplement to another math program. We're finishing up the last couple light units of CLE 5 right now and I'm looking at...

Re: LHTH devotional question
I also have the older version that I used with my two older dc. Since then, I sold Small Talks and Playtime Devotions and picked up Big Thought and ABC Bible Verses. I emailed Carrie about it, and she said to correspond the letter of the devotion to the letter being studied. That's it in a nutshell :D

Have you gotten her eyes checked by a behavioral optomotrist? It may be an eye problem, and she may need vision therapy. Just a thought.
There is also a site called wowzabrain.com. I listened to the lady speak at our homeschool convention. Her program is supposed to help dc gain fluency.

Thank you. I thought that might be the case. Does anyone know, off had, how many units The Adventures of Reddy Fox covers in LHFHG and what book comes next and how many units it covers? Thanks

Re: Thornton Burgess Books
That list just give the names of the characters. I would like to know the exact titles of each book because I have the opportunity to have some fall into my hands. I just need to know which ones to take. Thanks. Unless the characters mentioned are the names of the books?
