The head in the sand thing is not true wisdom and I do not think is going to keep kids belonging to God. They ultimately have to know what the world is like but it needs to be in light of the Word. So what I see HOD doing is presenting the strong foundation and working at the heart of discernment an...

Bigger is Better!!
My 7 yo ds sat down with me while I was looking over the Bigger manual. I told him that it covered poetry. He wanted me to read the first one. As I read it, he got a bigger and bigger smile on his face. He loved it! He wanted to talk all about it and what it meant. He couldn't wait to read all the o...

Great, great post! I agree wholeheartedly with the list. That was my experience as well. Once I sat down and thought about all that was really important to me in educating my kids, I saw that HOD had it all. It was like Carrie read my mind and then did all the work!! Now that I have finally seen a B...

HODie e-mail pen pal for 10 yo dd
I hope this is okay to post here. Please let me know if it is inappropriate! My 10-1/2 yo dd is looking for an e-mail pen pal. We recently gave her an e-mail address so that she might stay in touch with her extended family and uncle in Iraq. Her account is only able to receive messages from addresse...

Yes, yes and yes! Exactly the way I felt, too! Why hadn't I heard of this before??!! I am directing others here whenever I get the chance. And I haven't even used it yet! :D I ran across HOD while looking for something preschool-ish to recommend to my sil who is thinking of hs'ing. I remembered from...

Hi, Elmeryl! I love your unique name! I wanted to chime in here as well. I am also a lurker on other boards, but have joined in the discussion here at HOD. There's just something different here and I've been blessed by the ladies who have taken the time to respond to my questions. I have a 10 yo dd ...

Terri, I so sympathize with your dilemma. I have been working through many of the same issues myself. I have done the MFW ADV and MFW ECC - just finishing ECC in a few weeks. I have decided to make the switch to HOD next year. I will be doing it with a 5th grader and two 3rd graders. I had concern a...

One of the things that I love about HOD is that the programs feel pretty consistent. By that I mean that one level to the next seems to all have it's own special things that repeat and allow you to have a routine that is mixed up enough not to become monotonous yet familiar enough to be effortless....

Thanks, Carrie - that does help a lot. :D I think I could figure that out by looking at the samples, (which I have done plenty of :) ), but I wanted someone else to tell me that my thoughts were correct. I really want to use the LA in Bigger, but I also like what CQLA offers. Since Bigger includes t...

Bigger and LA question
Ok, help me out here... I am going over what Bigger entails and comparing it to what I am currently doing for LA. Our day can get somewhat long right now and the thought of a shorter day is appealing. First, let me tell what I am using. It is an all in one program that includes copywork, vocabulary,...

Does Bigger Stay Fun
I'm seriously considering using Bigger next year, thanks to all of the excellent advice and guidance I have received here so far. One concern I have is keeping up with the activities, etc. It all looks so wonderful in just looking over the first week sample, but I'm concerned about my longevity in d...
