Re: I can't believe I'm asking this...placement

I just wanted to agree with InHisTiming to say that I would just continue where you left off. They are such terrific programs that I wouldn't want my kids to miss out on them, especially if they can still "fit" as is OR with adding extensions. Praying for wisdom for you in making your decision.

Re: ideas for a child with auditory processing issues

I also have a child with auditory processing disorder - in the moderate to severe range. I agree that when my daughter has been able to read the material herself, it has helped her comprehension tremendously. As far as strengthening her auditoy learning, we used a software program called Earobics (l...

Re: O/T Neighborhood kids

We also have neighborhood kids that we need to have boundaries with for our kids. Some they are only allowed to play with at our home, as their own homes are very permissive with what the children watch or do on the computer. Some who are allowed only here must be reminded of our house rules often, ...

Re: Question about RTR Puberty/Purity studies

Thank you both for responding. I'm thinking that maybe I can do Passport to Purity with her this summer sometime, and that she'll just do CTC as written, and then next year, she could do RTR with the purity/puberty studies. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to cover the topics again more slowly and with a diff...

Re: Wow, I am so impressed!

Beyond is what my 2nd graders are using this year, and it is very full and rich! It has been a wonderfully complete year for us, and we are using the left side at half speed! It has been such a joy to teach. I've used Little Hands, Little Hearts, Beyond, Bigger, and Preparing so far, and I think it ...

Question about RTR Puberty/Purity studies

My two oldest will be in CTC next year, boy 10, girl 11. My daughter is going on 12, and for her, I was going to buy the RTR guide and do the Puberty/Purity portion of it with her this upcoming year. But, I haven't seen the materials in person that are used in those (Beautiful Girlhood, From Girl to...

Re: LHFHG for 1st grade?

I have used LHFHG for a Kindergartener and 3 1st graders. I agree with water2wine, that whether it is right for 1st or K will depend on the child. One child is fitting perfectly in it this year as a Kindergartener. But, 3 of the other kiddos needed it for first grade. And, even as 1st graders, for t...

Re: Oops! Read a book for DITHOR that's scheduled in PHFHG

Thanks for the ideas juliekay. My oldest is reading Adam of the Road right now already, as it is in the extension pack. But, I will check out the other two books you mentioned. I also hadn't thought of letting the younger one listen to the Door in the Wall on CD. He would have an extra "storytime" a...

Oops! Read a book for DITHOR that's scheduled in PHFHG

Tomorrow we are supposed to start Door in the Wall for storytime. We just finished the historical fiction genre in DITHOR, and my daughter read that for her book choice. I was so careful to make sure she didn't choose any books she was going to be reading in her extension readings, but I forgot to l...

Re: Placement and Combining Question

I will second what Lora Beth said. I think for Kindergarten, LHTH is fine along with doing Phonics and K Math. I have that combining situation, and this year both boys are in LHFHG with one boy doing 1st grade options and one boy doing K options. Last year before I joined these two, the older one wa...

Re: Preparing with a 5th grader

Hi! I don't have a lot to add to the above posts. But, I will say that my 5th grade daughter is using Preparing with the extensions this year, and it is SUCH a great program. Just enough independence and challenge for her. And, she has LOVED the extension readings. You will love Preparing! I couldn'...

Does anyone use HOD in New Orleans area?

Hi ladies, Our family might have to move to Louisiana to the New Orleans area, and I wanted to know if there are any of you in that area. I'd love to have help with a feel for the areas we might live. I've never lived outside the state of Virginia, and I've never been to New Orleans. Moving stresses...

Questions about my "extension" child in the long run...

As I look through the HOD scope and sequence, I am absolutely thrilled that there is a plan through 9th grade! But, I have a couple of things wanted to know. My 2 oldest are currently 4th & 5th grade doing Preparing, with my 5th grade dd doing the extensions. We'll be moving into CTC next year for 5...

Confession time, eh? OK, me too. And I won't even get to RTR until NEXT year, as in 2011/12. We start CTC in the Fall.
