Starting our first year soon, and suddenly panicking!
I'm a mama to 4 kiddos (almost 8, 6, 3, and 20 months). In a little over a week, I will start our very first year homeschooling. I plan to use Bigger for my almost 8yo, LHFHG for my 6yo, and LHTH for my 3yo (and baby can sort of tag along). With so many kids and this being our first year homeschooli...

Re: Which subjects are covered in LHFHG and Bigger?
A day at a glance is just what the guide does for you (everything on the 2 pages is what you do in a day)....If I need to see what is going on each week, I just read over the plans for a week. If you want to make yourself a planner, you can use the same 'subject' that the boxes have. LHFHG has 9 bo...

Re: Which subjects are covered in LHFHG and Bigger?
Thank you for your replies, ladies! :D I will say that I realized that I wasn't clear in what exactly I was looking for (my mistake, I didn't explain it well). I want to actually have a planner where I can see the day or week at a glance, that outlines what each child in each of their guides is goin...

Which subjects are covered in LHFHG and Bigger?
I have a question about the LHFHG and Bigger guides. I want to put together a planner or binder/notebook with tabs for the different subjects my kids will be working on this year. Can anyone tell me what subjects, exactly, they will be studying in these two guides? Before my HOD order arrived, I had...

Re: A Reason for Handwriting Question
That sounds great, thank you! I will just order the workbook for my older son then (my younger son will get his in his LHFHG package) and forget about the teacher's manual. One more question - do I need anything extra for this program? Blank sheets with the lines/dotted lines?

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions
I've gotten such great responses from you all, and I am so grateful for the tremendous amount of help I've received! I don't have time at the moment to reply to each response separately, but I've read every word and soaked it all in. Thank you all so much for all your help, truly! I was very ...

A Reason for Handwriting Question
I will be using LHFHG for my 6yo son this coming school year (1st grade level). I see that it comes with A Reason for Handwriting as one of the manuscript options. I was thinking of purchasing (separately) a higher level of A Reason for Handwriting for my older son to use, for light practice of his ...

4-day week?
I read somewhere that HOD is meant to be done 4 days per week. Is that true?

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions
Great advice from all of you, thank you all so much! Can I ask a question to all of the mamas who have used a level half-speed or have recommended me doing Bigger half-speed? You all said it's okay to take over a year to complete a level, and to do it at a speed my son is comfortable with, even if i...

DITHOR Question
Can DITHOR be used with a 7yo (turning 8 in October), who will be starting HOD in either Beyond or Bigger? I'm still trying to decide where to place my son, and I'm not sure if Beyond or Bigger will suit him better. But he's a great reader, and loves to read. He's finishing 2nd grade at a Christian ...

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions
Thank you all so much for your helpful suggestions and advice! I am taking every word to heart, and I appreciate all of your comments. You've all got me thinking that maybe Bigger truly would be the better program to place DS1 in this year. A lot of you have suggested doing Bigger at a slower pace, ...

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions
So, I looked over the placement charts again, and after studying them some more and carefully assessing where my boys are currently, I'm still thinking that LHFHG and Beyond is where they should be. There's no doubt in my mind that LHFHG is perfect placement for DS2. When looking at the charts for D...

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions
Have you looked at the first weeks and introduction to each guide? They are free pdf files you can download. They may help you decide which is a better fit. Another option depending on finances is just to buy all three levels. Then once you have them in hand, you can make a decision. No, I haven't ...

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions
Thank you both so much for your replies! I truly appreciate it. I have looked at the placing charts, but I'm still torn on which way to go with my oldest son, even after looking at the charts. I am going to go back though, and take a deeper look at them to see if one level stands out to me as more f...
