Re: Roll Call: What are your starting/stopping/taking a break plans?

We love a good, old-fashioned summer around here! We'll be spending our summer out of doors as much as possible! We'll be stopping all lessons and look forward to buying fresh school supplies in the fall, hooray! We'll probably do typing lessons (only because my girls beg for them!), read aloud alwa...

Re: Teaching Preparing with Two Kiddos

The only consumables in PHFHG are DITHOR workbooks and math workbooks. For two students, it is still important they do the "I" boxes independently. An easy way to do this is to have one reading the "I" Science book, while the other is reading the "I" Independent History book (or extension book, if ...

Re: Struggling SO much with reading aloud!

UPDATE: Things are SO much better now! Still room for improvement (My daughter is 10, and it seems like she'll never be able to do a written narration), but she listens to a whole story and can narrate much better. She still gets things out of order, or will tell it how she thinks it should be inste...

Math Decisions...Help!

Ok, so I could use some help thinking through math for next year...It helps me to "think out loud", so I'm sorry if this is long and boring! 🙈 I have 3 girls, ages 10, 8, and 6. We will be using Preparing for the oldest two, and finishing Little Hands first semester, starting Beyond second semester ...

Re: How are you all doing?

My mom has been a special inspiration to me. Our Dad passed away about 6 years ago, and I've been wondering how she'd handle this quarantine. Well, she's doing so well! She's found house projects to do, she's watching more sermons (four in a row on Easter Sunday!), she's found shows to watch in the...

Re: Check-in: What guides are you using?

I'm using LHFHG with my 6-year old (taking our time. It's April and we're on unit 20.) Both my almost-8-year-old and almost-10-year-old are going through Bigger Hearts together. (My younger is highly motivated, and my older is super distractable and low-key, so they meet in the middle!) We love it! ...

Re: How are you all doing?

So glad to hear Greyson is doing so well! Praise God <3 We moved to Chicago last summer, and are SO thankful we were able to fly out to CA to visit family just before everything shut down! I am super thankful for our HOD guides right now. Keeping on track with them and just continuing our establishe...

Thoughts on My Book House?

(Is it ok to ask this here?) One of the reasons I love HOD is that it is conservative in its approach to literature, including fairy tales and myths, etc. I have a daughter who devours books after school-time, and I'd love to have a set like "My Book House" for her to just pick up and read in her sp...

Re: Proverbs + Character Traits in Bigger

Thank you, Carrie!
That makes sense that they connect with the history! I haven't done this guide yet, so I don't know all the ins & outs, but am preparing to use it for next year. :) I will go forward as listed, and we are so looking forward to it! It looks like an AMAZING guide!!

Proverbs + Character Traits in Bigger

So...I am a little confused as to how some of the Proverbs illustrate the character traits in Bigger Hearts! Has anyone else had this problem? Maybe someone can explain some of them to me? Or did you sub verses that made more sense to you? Thanks!! These are the ones that I'm having trouble w...

Historical Art Book?

Hi! We are in Unit 26 of LHFHG, and just read a story about George Washington crossing the Delaware during the War of Independence, and the text mentioned a painting depicting this scene. We looked it up online, and my girls and I really enjoyed this fine art visual to complement our history today! ...
