Re: Picture study, foreign language, classical mushandicraf

Yes. It's spread out through the guides, with different things each year. Eg, Res to Ref includes picture study.

Re: Junior / Senior High Questions..long...would love some h

I'm not sure if I've said this before in other threads. I have a fair amount of experience getting homeschooled teens into college, though only a little with HOD and that on the jr high level. (HOD was never available on the level that my older kids were on, as they are even now just barely finishin...

What is the "extra topic" in CTC?

Res to Ref has art history. Others have a state study, composers, or nature study. What is the special topic in CtC? Is it the watercolors that go with the poetry?

Re: wondering about going back to CTC

She's only on week 13--it took her awhile to figure out the "system," if that makes sense. She would read the assigned pages but miss the rest of the instructions, so I had to keep going back over and over. We are really only managing a half-time rate, about 2 days' worth per week. She has finally f...

wondering about going back to CTC

I have a 7th grader who has been doing Res to Ref this year. The type of work is a good level for her, but the volume has been somewhat of a struggle. Since we have a 2 day per week co-op, we are probably only going to get about half-way done with it this year. Looking ahead, I am seeing that she wi...

Re: A Plea for Help from You Wise Ladies!

First of all, you have not failed your daughter! Each child learns different things, and she has learned a great deal about compassion, mercy, and other things that will stand her in good stead as an adult. Also, most kids, once they start moving in the right direction, will move a lot faster throug...

Re: ? about balancing things

We have a similar co-op. It's ok, but not what I would call rigorous. However, my kids love it, and especially love doing science there. They do use Apologia science, which is a very strong program, but they don't do all the experiments and all the parts of it, which I think is important, especially...

Re: Need Help/ Ideas - Resurrection- Reformation

I haven't used HOD very long, but I have graduated 2 from high school. In reading your last post, I have a couple of thoughts: 1. I do think you are right to beef up the literature, though HOD doesn't really give specific literature assignments. Are you doing DITHOR? I think using the 6/7 of that wi...

Re: Need Help/ Ideas - Resurrection- Reformation

Oh, I see what you are saying. I was thinking of the student notebook. You mean the guide book. I'm sorry, I misunderstood his point. Does he do all the boxes in the guide book? My dd is younger than your ds, so I don't know if this would apply to him. We have several boxes where we do different thi...

Re: Need Help/ Ideas - Resurrection- Reformation

It seems to me that he must be looking at all the boxes at once, and that's why it seems like a lot. Some people don't have good executive skills to mentally separate what needs done now from what doesn't need to be worried about until tomorrow. Perhaps if you used the post it notes to block off all...

Re: Pre-Algebra Recommendation

We went from Horizons 6 into Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra, twice. I had them do the chapter test at the beginning instead of the end, and they were able to skip the first 6 or 7 chapters. But then some of the chapters took a really long time, and I had them do 30 or 45 minutes instead of a whole l...

Re: Horrified by "homeschooled Kids" behavior at CoOp event

Ours is pretty good. We have a supervisor mom in the "study hall" room (not much studying gets done! :) ), and we do pink slips on a three times you're out basis. I have never had to give a pink slip, but I think most years someone does once or twice. Our kids get a bit noisy sometimes, but they are...

Re: DS5--fine motor skill trouble

There are a couple of books I found with my "pencil allergic" child, which were very helpful. I got them because she had trouble with a lot of sensory integration issues (loud noises, little awareness of where she was in space, etc), but there is a lot in them which is useful for helping with fine m...

Re: Experiences with NCAA?

Ok, I figured out which 2 friends of mine have done this, and have 1 email for you. (Will probably have another in a couple of days. :) ) If you want to pm me with your email address, I will put you in touch. They both used Sonlight, mostly, but have successfully been through the process with a fair...

Re: Experiences with NCAA?

I have some friends who have done NCAA with other homeschool programs. They won't have the specifics of HOD, but they can talk to you about what they did with NCAA and what issues they ran into. If you will give me your email, I will see if I can get them to talk to you. :)
