Re: OT- How many states have you been to?

Interesting thread! I have NOT visited AZ, NV, CA, CO, NM, ME, DE, NH, but have hit all the others. My dad was a tour bus driver when I was young, and so mom and I spent an awful lot of time on the road with him. :) Now, my hubby (the singer) on the other hand has traveled to every state except for ...

Question for Carrie re: timelines

Hi Carrie, I was just wondering what your thoughts may be on timelines in future guides. I know Charlotte Mason advocated using a Book of Centuries beginning at about 10 years old, and I admit I really like the idea of beginning some sort of timeline book that could be added to throughout the coming...

Re: Preparing - 12 tribes of Israel map??

Hi Charlene,

We used this one:

http://goodnewspirit.com/pdf7203twelvetribes.pdf

It is a downloadable PDF file, so we were able to make it a little smaller while the girls were drawing it.. also it has very clear distinctions for ease in coloring the various tribes.

HTH! :D

Re: Let's share our schedules!

We're doing Preparing with my 10yos and Beyond with my 7yo. We try to start between 8:30-9:00 and are usually finished by noon if not sooner. Now that we are seven weeks in, everything flows so smoothly that our actual "school time" has decreased. Our mornings Mon-Thurs look something like this: Tog...

How yummy can you get?!?

I'm typing this with my mouth full of Egyptian pastry from week 6 of Preparing. Anything with food is bound to be one of my favorite activities.

Thanks for this one, Carrie! It's delicious!

Re: How hard to do 2 packages at once?

We started Beyond and Preparing a few weeks ago. The first week or two, it was taking us a little over four hours to get everything done, mostly due to all of us becoming familiar with the new curriculum and my dd's getting familiar with using their checklist of independent work. This morning we fin...

Re: Preparing Unit 3 question--art

We did this activity last week. I believe the dyeing process was only for those of us stuck using white paper :)
If you've got a paper bag, I would use as is.

Tips on choosing the correct dictation level?

Hi everyone.. we just finished our move from TN to OK and I missed all of you! It's so great to be online again -- and with high speed, too! I feel like a kid at Christmas! I'm probably overthinking this, but I'm wondering if anyone has tips for placing your kiddo in the correct level of dictation. ...

Re: Bigger Copywork Question

My Bigger manual is already packed, so I can only be about 98% certain :) , but to my recollection there is no daily poetry copywork scheduled. Cheerful would take the place of that.

Re: Bigger Copywork Question

It's my understanding that Cheerful Cursive takes the place of copywork (as far as handwriting practice goes) for the Bigger year. There is still some copywork included in science and history, too.

Re: Roll Call: Can we share what HOD programs we're doing...

I love seeing what everyone else is doing, too! I have: 2 dds (9) starting Preparing & DITHOR ds (7) starting Beyond & DITHOR If I can hold out that long, our start date will be September 1st. However, I found out today that we're moving in ONE WEEK  from TN to OK, so I'll be lucky if I even ...

Re: Beyond Little Hearts/DITHOR genre question

You can do the DITHOR genres in whatever order you'd like! For us, I decided we would mix them up a bit so as not to match up with the genre in Beyond.. too much of a good thing and all that.. :) We're doing Adventure, Folk Tales, Mystery, Realistic Fiction, and then Nonfiction this year, in that or...

Finally! That old rock song kept going through my head.. "Don't know whatcha got, 'til it's gone..."

As someone else mentioned, there's such a positive and supportive atmosphere here compared to an AWFUL lot of other boards. I feel really blessed to be a part of it!

Our plan...

Hi Allison, We're doing Preparing and Beyond next year, and my plan is to do the Beyond storytime readings while the kids eat breakfast (something we've already done for several years). I chose books that none of my kiddos have heard from the Beyond lists, so it will be new for everyone. I'm plannin...
