Re: Daydreamer child

I would also look into the possibility of casomorphs being an issue. My son is not allergic to dairy, however he reacts poorly (read: gets spacy/whiny/poor focus/unable to keep on even simple tasks) to casein. He is fine with butter and whipping cream, but not cheese, ice cream, yogurt or milk. We h...

Re: Placement Advice

Have you looked at the sample week for each guide? That will help you get a feel for the amount of work and the difficulty of each level. Also, Bigger is 5 days/week, while Preparing is 4 days/week. As you advance within HOD, the maturity of the content grows, and that may be a consideration as you ...

I think it is in your HOD guide. I would check the appendix there 8)

Re: English 3 and 4 worksheets

Hi :D This link may help a bit. http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16860&p=118119&hilit=worksheets#p118119 Carrie has put together a fabulous curriculum that should not overwhelm you or your children. If you do add to it, you may find your day out of balance, and your joy in the...

Re: Placement advice...Coming back to HOD 11 and 13 yr old

Hi Megan, I hear you 8) I think you could do CTC successfully with both. The books for history are a bit challenging, so you might have her read some of the the read alouds instead. The history texts in RestoRef are a bit easier, I thought. What if you order the girl read alouds for her, and the boy...

Re: Reading Struggles

Hi :D I have three sons, all taking different paths in reading. My older two were both reading after just an hour with a Dick and Jane book, at 4 years old. Then followed intensive phonics instruction at a charter school in kindergarten. My youngest struggled to learn with readers, until I realized ...

Re: Son struggling in Bigger. Please help!

A few thoughts...As Stephanie said, maybe spring fever? Or, have you been busier/up later because of more daylight? Maybe he needs a little more sleep. Have you been eating differently, i.e more snacks containing additives or more sugar? Is he having a growth spurt? My guys also get spacy then, and ...

Re: Need help with curriculum choice

Good news is shipping is very fast with HOD 8) I think you might feel better if you give them a call or email directly, though. You will love the curriculum when your dc are well placed.

Re: teaching computers

Hey Sarah, I might start by searching what Focus on the Family, Answers in Genesis, or HSLDA might have on the topic. Learning to use the tools available is one thing, and learning to be safe and pure is another. Hope you find some good ideas 8)

Re: I am deciding on placement and would like your thoughts!

Hi Alicia :D Sounds like you have the correct guides picked out. My thoughts were to maybe do two storytimes with the Bigger guide...girl books for dd and boy/history pack for ds. Also, maybe start them in different spots for dictation so as to avoid the inevitable "comparisons", or even keep dd on ...

I would...I did, actually. My son is now getting back into it after half a year off. It was such a relief 8) This child does not progress smoothly in his learning...he makes a leap, hangs out for a while, then leaps again. So unlike my older two

Re: Placement Help

Welcome :D I think you will love HOD. I agree with Stephanie that LHFHG and Bigger would probably be best. LHFHG is only a few minutes per box, with fun activities even for younger siblings to join in. Bigger should take no more than a couple hours, and again, younger dc may enjoy listening in. You ...
