Re: discouraged, would love some prayer and advice

Prayers here also. Something I have noticed with my boys is that having good snacks available really helps their attitudes as they hit the hormonal years. Protein is SO important. I keep jerky, nutbutters and apples or celery, veggies and ranch, cheese and fruit or deli meats, organic yoghurt...anyt...

Re: General Homeschooling- need help/ prayer

Definitely praying for you, Becky. I've been through so much this past decade with digestive issues, joint pain, thyroid trouble, loss of infant and many other physical and emotional onslaughts , yet I know God is good. I recently did genetic testing and discovered a real mess. However, the tests al...

Re: Beef up Beyond or have and easy year???

My middle boy is this way, and as a 7th grader is finishing his Rev to Rev work almost independently in about 3-4 hours. We have let him have as many library books as he wants so he can continue to feed his curiosity. We discuss philosophy points that are different from our own beliefs and help him ...

Re: Needing input on Writing & Lit for a 16 year old

Hey Vicki, I know Carrie and Julie will have great advice for you :D I bet they will want to know what other subjects and electives he had finished, however, I wanted to encourage you now. My son has improved dramatically in the writing and grammar department since we went back and purchased the WG ...

Re: Taking books overseas

I have wondered about this for other missionary friends. Wouldn't it be great if you could purchase the guides in electronic format? One friend did "lose" her first set of curriculum and had to re-order. I will be watching this thread to see what suggestions come up.

Re: 2 boys Placement Question

Robyn, in my experience, it is quite a jump in written work from PH to RtR. If you continue the curriculum in order, he would be better prepared for highschool level work without frustration. Of course, by the end of this year he may have gained much in that area. The concern I would have is that he...

Re: dyslexia and HOD high school

I don't have any great suggestions other than you may want to speak with Carrie or Julie and get their expert advice. I really wanted to encourage you and give you and your ds kudos for the effort and determination given to the program:- My ds in WG has also struggled some as he is a very analytical...

Re: Help with poor attitude.....need advice....

For my youngest, it is always the result of sugar and lack of sleep. When the goodies are gone, we eat lots of clean protein and veggies, take more vitamin C and Magnesium Calm, and sleep in. A bath with Epson salts is a good thing for calming, as is chamomile. This time of year is hard, but you can...

Re: DS15~juggling job and MTMM.

I totally relate. My son is doing WG this year along with a job one day a week, Civil Air Patrol one night a week, youth group, and then he added cross country. This was a huge jump for him, and I was so tempted to lighten his load, but I let him sort it out. He has really stepped up and impressed h...

Re: MEALS FAST

I will often cook a large pot of rice, a ton of bite sized chicken breast/thighs or ground beef seasoned "mexican" style and keep them in the fridge for quick meals as burritos or "taco" salads throughout the week. Also a beef roast today might be quick chili tomorrow with black beans, green chile s...

Re: Website Confuses Newbies

I also would not want our very hardworking and precious Carrie to be discouraged:-) I agree that many people will understand the catalog and the website much better if they diligently read and study them. I love the accessibility of the Austin family and their willingness to work with anyone who nee...

Re: how NOT to compare

Rice, just a quick clarification, I use the timer more to set a limit on how much time is spent on a subject for the purpose of keeping one subject from becoming too overwhelming, rather than expecting completion within that time limit. The surprising result has been that dc have found themselves ac...

Re: how NOT to compare

One thing I have recently (after several years of frustration :? ) discovered is the use of a timer as a source of encouragement for my reluctant and/or slow workers. I found on these boards several links with the approximate times each box of the CTC and WG guides should take and, as I write a simp...
