Re: question - repeating guides with younger child?

Good point Julie. I don't think she'd mind reading the books again. We just finished reading about James Audubon. She loved that book!

question - repeating guides with younger child?

We are using Little Hearts For Glory 8 yr old) and Bigger Hearts for Glory (10 yr old) My youngest has been sitting in on all of the history/science lessons. What do I do when it comes time for her to do Bigger? Will the books be the same and repeat them or other suggestions?

Thanks, Kristie

Re: math - what to do for a struggling student?

No, we are still trying to work through math. We are far behind she is almost 11 and still working on learning multiplication tables. :-( We've tested for learning disability and nothing comes up...

Re: I don't know what to do - math is HARD!

No, I have Little Hearts for Glory. Is it okay not to give the placement test? She has such anxiety and I just looked at the placement tests and can tell where she falls in it. It appears 1B would be the best fit for her. Right now I am having her use Reflex Math which she likes to work on math fact...

Re: I don't know what to do - math is HARD!

I should have mentioned she is behind in math. We left public school after 3rd grade. She was struggling with basic math facts, telling time, and money. She is now telling time, becoming more fluent in her facts, and can count mixed change (that was a challenge). Looking at the placement tests she i...

I don't know what to do - math is HARD!

Today was our 1st day of using HOD. My 10 yr old is in Bigger Hearts for Glory. Overall everything went well she loves the hands on and short lessons. BUT math is a challenge. I have not ordered a curriculum. I just can't pick one. We tried Math U See and Right Start. She doesn't want to watch a vid...

math - what to do for a struggling student?

Hi Everyone We are new to homeschooling and ordered HOD for our girls (age 7 and 10). I could use some advice for my 10 yr old. She will be in Bigger Hearts this year. She has struggled with math for several years. We've reached the point where she hates math. When she was in public school (up to 3r...

needing help with math?

Hi Everyone, Our curriculum box arrived and I'm so excited. I was glancing at the math which I had not ordered because I wasn't sure about the fit with Singapore. But I love the hands on activities however I'm struggling with where to place my 7 yr old. She could use some Kindergarten math learning ...

Re: New to HOD advice on placement/questions

Thanks Melissa. I try to always review with what she does know to maintain her confidence. I can't imagine how she felt in public school. Her teacher did try but they should have pulled her out but she did not qualify for additional support. It was one of the major factors bringing her home. But I f...

Re: New to HOD advice on placement/questions

Thank you Becky for your thoughts and kind words. I may not have the answer today, but I know that with love and faith we'll get through it. My husband says I'm too hard on myself and to focus on the positives and the success we have made each day. For instance, she finally understands time! Dyscalc...

Re: New to HOD advice on placement/questions

We did a full 19 battery of nueropsychological testing and it cost $3k. We also spent $500 before we moved out of state on learning disability testing as well as testing in the public school. We were told she has a learning style not a disability. Sigh. I'm not sure we can keep paying $$$ and they f...

Re: New to HOD advice on placement/questions

The oldest is doing Bigger Hearts and I feel comfortable with that placement. I know we do need to stick to a math curriculum. It's hard though because I suspect she may have a learning disability (Dyscalculia). We did have her tested for learning disabilities and nothing appeared although most psyc...

Re: New to HOD advice on placement/questions

The 7 yr old would be in Beyond not Bigger Hearts for Glory and 10 yr old in Bigger Hearts for Glory. I spoke with HOD and they suggested moving 7 yr old to Little Hearts for Glory. I'm torn she is between Little Hearts and Beyond Little Hearts. She is not fluently reading yet which is why I think s...
