Re: A Child's Geography Website not working in CTC

According to the Updates tab on the HOD website, it looks like the website is: http://kqm2018.knowledgequesthq.com/acg-vol2-dl/

That redirects you to: https://www.masterbooks.com/faq/question/id/73

where you can download the extras.

HTH!

Re: World Geography Literature Substitutions

Carrie, Thanks so much for your reply. I'm glad that it's a fairly straight-forward substitution here. I'm praying that next year is a real breath of fresh air for us. We're overseas, so don't have the luxury of jumping ship mid-year. :-) We'll continue with our current course for this year and trus...

World Geography Literature Substitutions

This school year, my youngest has returned to HOD and next year the rest will join her! :D My eldest was a bit reticent, but after looking up and previewing EVERY. SINGLE. BOOK on the World Geography list, he is super excited about it! I'm hoping you can help with a little issue with the World...

Re: Schedule for year-round schooling

We school year-round, but each year looks a bit different from one to the next. In general, we school 6 weeks on, 1 week off, pretty much from August to May. We take an extra week off at Christmas, but any longer than two weeks and my kids (and I!) kinda go bonkers from lack of routine. The summers ...

Re: Is this book still for sale?

pilgrim8502 - a few years ago, I found it on a used book site. I looked just now and found it from Thrift Books at a great price. So, it's out there if you're willing to look a little!

Combining two in Bigger

This coming year, we'll be using Bigger for my DD8 and DS9/10 (he turns 10 in October). I'm planning to use the extensions for my DS. He's an excellent reader and absolutely loves history so I don't anticipate there being any complaints from him! He could likely handle to be in Preparing, but I'm no...

Re: Behind in math

If it's an encouragement, my 2nd grader is still finishing up 1B as well. :-) We've got a gamut of math abilities in this family and have always used Singapore as well. My eldest is a math-aholic (and thus way "ahead" of book level), my second is math-phobic, and my two girls seem to be somewhere in...

Re: Reassurance/thoughts on placement

So, I wrote a huge long post, my phone fritzes and I lost it all. Then, I get on my tablet to discover that Nealewill has essentially written my post verbatim. :-) Great minds think alike! What I'm understanding you saying is that your 5yo is learning to read, has a decent grasp of letter form...

Re: Reassurance/thoughts on placement

I second the idea to rethink placing a 6yo in Bigger, ESPECIALLY with writing struggles. Bigger is a LOT of writing for young hands. If you would like to combine (as opposed to running three back-to-back-to-back guides), you might consider placing your middle with your youngest in Little Hearts. Sin...

Re: Multiplication Facts

Have you heard of Skip Count Kids? My kids love those songs and they've got a CD called The Bible Heroes. My kids learned to skip count by threes by singing the Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego song. It's so catchy! They do also have a regular (non-Bible) CD also. I found I liked some from each so dow...

Re: Preparing Hearts For His Glory

I would not recommend using A Child's History of the World (the main spine, alongside Grandpa's Box) with a K'er and 2nd. We used it previously with my 1st'er through another curriculum and ended up shelving it as there were topics I didn't feel were appropriate to discuss at such a young age, speci...

Thank you, Lynn and Julie! I really appreciate your time in responding. I will certainly take a closer look at both R&S 3 and 4 and see what might fit for our family.

R&S in the later years

I asked this on one of the FB boards, but feel I was either misunderstood or perhaps didn't explain myself well, so I'm calling in the cavalry (all you lovely HOD moms)! Currently, I'm using English Lessons Through Literature for our grammar, instead of R&S. My sons are just beginning Beyond (6.5yo)...

Re: Bigger timeline

Here's a photo of my son's timeline for Bigger this year. I chose to modify the instructions just slightly in that we used two overlapping file folders instead of one. My reason for this was simply because he is on the younger side of the guide (7.5yo) and I didn't want him frustrated by too small o...

Re: LHFHG 1st grade options or Right side of Beyond?

We did LHFHG with my K'er and 1st'er this year. For my older so who has excellent penmanship and was very ready for copywork, we did daily copywork that rotated. He did not do any of the FMS books, FYI. So, it looked something like: Monday - Literature (usually from Burgess, but sometimes from a rea...
