Re: (another) Substitution question

It looks like you'll have $16.99 to spend on other books since you already have a children's Bible. If I were you, I would pick out a book as close to that value as possible from the Beyond Girl's, Boy's, or Classic Interests Books. For instance, Benjamin West and His Cat Grimalkin, comes close in ...

Re: Newer LHFHG book compared to older from 2004

For fine motor skills I'll be using the first grade options of Going on Eagerly and Just Thinking & Choosing and will be using Singapore 1a & 1b.

Newer LHFHG book compared to older from 2004

I've got a friend willing to loan me her Little Hearts guide, I remember reading about an update for this, found it, and it was only one little thing. Is this correct? Is the 2004 Little Hearts the same as the one that's available for purchase on the HOD website currently? Silly question but I'd jus...

Re: Little Hearts for first grade help

A local friend just said she would bring over her LHFHG and Beyond guides over for me to look at! I am so excited! Right now in school it seems like they are just doing 'refresher' work and he's a little bored with it. He is using the challenge list for spelling so instead of 'on, in, with, up...' h...

Re: Little Hearts for first grade help

FOr math, HOD recommends Singapore, but you can use any curriculum you want. For 1st grade, you would use the 1A and 1B scheduled in the appendix of LHFHG if you went with Singapore. If you want to use something else, you can (MUS and Horizons are two common options used with HOD). As for phonics, ...

Little Hearts for first grade help

If I go with Little Hearts for first grade, can someone else share with me what they are supplementing with? As in what math, are you doing any language arts? And how about spelling and phonics (or which phonics did you go with from HOD)? As soon as I decide on one guide I second guess myself and th...

Re: Ordering

Thanks for posting this. We have a children's Bible already, anyone know if I could substitute that one for something else?

Supplies

We aren't starting our HOD hs just yet but while the school supplies are still out can anyone tell me what I NEED to get to be prepared and not pay full price when we ARE ready to start? I know crayons and glue sticks are a given. Any other items that you know are on sale this time of year that you ...

Re: Who has their first grader in LHFHG?

Tyra, Just wanted to say I have enjoyed reading this thread. I know you're going to have a wonderful year. I love how carefully you are researching and considering all your options. I know how you must just be itching to order! Hehe. It really sounds like your oldest *could* do either Little Hands ...

Re: Who has their first grader in LHFHG?

I just thought about another question...Since I plan on using Singapore's first grade math workbooks is there a schedule that would match up with his math lessons like there is for the Singapore kinder workbook?

Re: Who has their first grader in LHFHG?

If you look at the sample week on the LHFHG page, you will see a storytime box for each day. There are questions and/or activities for basically every day. We just finished Unit 2 today, and I can already see how the story time is really helping my daughter with comprehension! We still have to go b...

Re: Who has their first grader in LHFHG?

I would say just find some fun books for him to read other than the ERs and the storytime (that you will read to him probably - they aren't "easy" books at all). Let him pick out what is interesting to him - maybe from the local library. As for spelling, it is up to you. Since you will want to buy ...

Re: Who has their first grader in LHFHG?

I looked through the Singapore primary math today and know for sure that he is ready for the second book. And he's good at reading - is there a set of books we could get to go along with it besides the eight already listed and the emerging readers? And what about spelling? Should I just put that on ...
